In the 90’s-00’s, when celebrities would flex by showing how expensive the “cribs” were and rappers would pop Crys in their mansions with all their fresh Bentleys, the flex was that they owned it. Of course, we know now in most cases they rented and/or were in massive debt. The Roots have a great video about it for “What They Do.” But they at least pretended. That’s not the case with everyone’s new favorite viral video this week, where this dame brags about $3000 worth of monthly car payments.
Somewhere in Tennessee, Dave Ramsey just had an aneurysm and isn’t quite sure why.
It appears to be a response to this video in which our friend here, whose personality has no niche, responds to haters who think she is lying to them about her financial literacy.
So she threw her husband under the bus by saying he’s derpy with money too. There is a key difference though. He is NOT the one bragging on TikTok about his horrible financial decisions. That’s only you, Sally. Your husband is going into debt in private like a normal person, so on behalf of all the Internet, we’ll allow him his privacy.
This isn’t even the worst car lease piece of content we have. That honor goes to the guy who paid a lease off for a year and a half, thinking it meant he owned the car, because while he read the contract, he didn’t understand the contract.
I’ve never owned or leased a new car before, so this is a frame of reference I’m unfamiliar with. I also own a home, invest, and have no debt. Maybe I’m the weird one for thinking $3000 a month for two cars you don’t own is, if you’ll pardon my Swahili, dumb. I’m guessing no, what with this video being all over X-Twitter.
There’s a trend of people sharing their first-world problems on social media and expecting sympathy. At least the Zoomers crying because working for a living made them realize how much adulting sucks is relatable. We’ve all had that moment at one point in our 20s, just without broadcasting it all over the world wide web.
Your $3000 dollars a month worth of financial illiteracy? That’s kinda an odd flex.
