Democratic Candidate Pete Buttigieg Gets Into It With Black Protester Over Police Shooting: ‘I’m not asking for your vote!’

Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg got all jammed up in racial turmoil in his hometown of South Bend this past week after a white police officer shot and killed a black man accused of breaking into cars downtown. Buttigieg faced anger from the man’s family and other protesters Friday. Black Lives Matter was on hand stirring rage up and the crowd was not friendly towards Buttigieg, to say the least.

Most of the other Democratic presidential candidates were stumping at Rep. Jim Clyburn’s World Famous Fish Fry in South Carolina but Buttigieg left the campaign trail to address the shooting in Indiana. He faced grief-stricken and angry black South Bend residents who believe he is not doing enough to prevent deaths like that of 54-year-old Eric Logan’s. Never mind that the guy was breaking the law and that the shooting was probably justified… it’s the ‘I hate cops’ mantra and Mayor Pete is getting caught up in it. What’s a leftist to do?

Local media reports indicated around 150 people turned out for the Justice for South Bend rally, which began with a tense confrontation at police headquarters between demonstrators and Buttigieg, who was flanked by the city’s Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski. It lasted for just about 40 hellish minutes.

A member of the group read a list of demands to Buttigieg, calling for O’Neill to be fired and for a review of the case by the U.S. Department of Justice. It also called for the resignation of Ruszkowski, body camera policy changes, new training, and other changes.

From TheBlaze:

“And while his responsibility as mayor was to listen and try to console the residents of his city, even his presence was met with skepticism by protesters who wondered if he was only there to protect the image of his presidential campaign.

“Are you really here because you care about blacks, or are you just here because you want to be the president?” one woman asked him.

“This is my home too,” Buttigieg responded.

“In another exchange, Buttigieg again tried to convince a protester that his presence and concern for the situation was not merely about presidential ambitions.

“You running for president and you expect black people to vote for you?” someone demanded.

“I’m not asking for your vote,” Buttigieg said in response.

“You ain’t getting it either,” a protester replied.

“The protests center on Logan’s death. Logan was shot in the abdomen by a police officer who responded to reports that Logan was breaking into cars. The officer claims Logan lunged at him with a knife. However, the officer failed to turn on his body camera.

“Logan’s family plans to file a federal civil rights lawsuit against South Bend.”

“Can you say it to us today, in front of all these cameras, that black lives matter?” one person asked.

“Did you just ask me if black lives matter? Of course, black lives matter,” Buttigieg said in a megaphone.

“Then fire your cops,” another person yelled.

And so it went…

CNN was shocked that this confrontation came about. The optics for Buttigieg are simply awful here. Let’s just say this won’t help his presidential aspirations at all. I almost feel sorry for him but when you don’t really stand for something this is what happens.

Once again we see a cop who had to do the unthinkable as is his job because someone was breaking the law. Instead of taking responsibility for crime in their midst, the black community in South Bend is blaming the police which makes no sense at all. If you don’t want to get shot, quit committing crimes that will force officers to take aggressive actions because of it. And shame on Buttigieg for groveling in front of cop-haters and racists like this. How weak can you get? Buttigieg weak.
