REPORT: Amash Loses Support From Republican Lawmakers And Officials After ‘Impeachment’ Tweet Against Trump

Republican Party lawmakers and officials slammed Republican Michigan Rep. Justin Amash, who called for President Trump’s impeachment in a series of tweets Saturday night.

Amash claimed on Twitter Saturday night that Trump “engaged in impeachable conduct” by obstructing justice, and that Attorney General Bill Barr “deliberately misrepresented” special counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

The article goes on to state the following:

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said on Fox News that Amash “just wanted attention” and attacked the Michigan Republican’s voting record.

“You’ve got to understand Justin Amash. He’s been in Congress quite some time. I think he’s asked one question in all the committees that he’s been in. He votes more with Nancy Pelosi than he ever votes with me. It’s a question whether he’s even in our Republican conference as a whole.”

House Minority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise said he “strongly disagreed” with Amash, while North Carolina Republican Rep. Mark Walker compared Amash to Sen. Bernie Sanders.

“It’s sad to see Congressman Amash parroting the Democrats’ talking points on Russia,” tweeted RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.

Michigan Republican Party Chairwoman Laura Cox said Amash has “opposed [Trump’s] ‘America First’ agenda every step of the way.”

Amash’s impeachment tweets may also have hurt his congressional reelection prospects and presidential goals, if he had any, according to a longtime Michigan Republican consultant who spoke to The Daily Caller.

“I think you’re going to see primary candidates emerge very quickly and I think that he will be challenged, and if the right person runs he will be defeated in a primary,” the GOP consultant said. “If you go on our social media pages in Michigan, everyone is furious (at him). They all look at it as very self-serving. People are saying that he’s doing it to see what kind of reaction he gets from around the country for a presidential run. My guess is he’ll get a small group of anti-Trumpers and some Democrats, which will obviously get him nowhere.”
