$2 billion gas tax increase proposed for Illinois infrastructure

 

As we’ve said in the past, “infrastructure” is often code for crony capitalism. We’ve also said that things are likely to only get worse on the taxation front in Illinois.

And who will be hurt most by this large increase in the gas tax? It’s not the cronies.

“That especially hurts lower-income folks who are just trying to make ends meet,” Sosnowski said.

Sandoval said a separate bill he expects to be heard next week in committee would allow for local governments to impose a gas tax on top of the state’s gas tax for local roads and infrastructure projects.
