New York City mayor Bill de Blasio has hinted that he might run for president in 2020. But he could be rethinking that plan now.

He held an event in New Hampshire and six people showed up to hear him. Six.

The News York Post reported:

De Blasio speaks to crowd of only 20 people in New Hampshire

Mayor Bill de Blasio’s ongoing tease of a presidential run didn’t exactly pull in the crowds during a campaign-esque event in the Granite State.

Only 20 people showed up Sunday to hear the leader of America’s largest city hold a roundtable on mental health — including the 14 people on the panel and just six in the audience.

There were also about six reporters on hand to make the room at the Sugar River Valley Regional Technical Center look a bit less empty.

De Blasio — who continued to refuse to commit to a White House run — pulled a well-worn page from his mayoral campaign playbook and put first lady Chirlane McCray center stage on what was his second day touring the crucial primary battleground state.

The day began with de Blasio and McCray touting her under-scrutiny $1 billion mental health initiative, Thrive NYC, to a roundtable of local officials in the town of Claremont, even as Big Apple lawmakers demand answers about its spending and effectiveness back home.

Maybe the people of New Hampshire have more common sense than New Yorkers. Back in New York, de Blasio is pushing for more money to battle climate change.

FOX News reports:

Bill de Blasio, pitching $10B climate change plan, blames global warming for Hurricane Sandy

In a video posted to social media on Monday, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio again directly blamed climate change for 2012’s deady Superstorm Sandy — a contention that lacks scientific support – and touted his plan to spend $10 billion to fortify and “protect Lower Manhattan” against future storms.

Even as local leaders warned that de Blasio’s plan to construct new barriers would actually destroy the waterfront neighborhoods he says he wants to protect, de Blasio insisted his views were now mainstream among New Yorkers.

“After Sandy, there weren’t a lot of climate change deniers left in New York City,” de Blasio said directly into the camera, after reminding viewers that the storm left dozens dead and cost the city billions in economic losses. “We need to protect this city and this country, and this world, from global warming. There’s no national policy to do it right now. … We have to do it ourselves.”

Mayor de Blasio added in the video, which appeared on Facebook and Twitter, that the federal government also must act quickly: “We have to fight for the bigger changes, like the Green New Deal,” de Blasio said.

It’s amazing that this guy got reelected.
