British Royal Family member Catherine, Princess of Wales, otherwise known as Kate Middleton, has been diagnosed with cancer.
Middleton announced Friday, March 22, she is in the early stages of chemotherapy treatment following her abdominal surgery in January, Knewz.com has learned.
Middleton did not reveal what type of cancer she has, or at what stage. She reportedly started chemotherapy treatment in February, RadarOnline reports.
Middleton underwent abdominal surgery in January, when the cancer was reportedly discovered, according to online reports.
She was initially expected to return to her royal duties after Easter following the unspecified surgery.
Then, conspiracy theories erupted and swirled for weeks in her absence.
A poorly edited photo of Middleton and her three children was posted to the Kensington Palace X account on Mother’s Day, adding fuel to the fire. There was speculation about potential divorce, or whether Middleton was in a coma, or even if she had died.
Then video footage of husband Prince William and Middleton at a market circulated, appearing to show the princess in good health and spirits — but skeptics weren’t convinced the grainy footage was actually the princess, as RadarOnline reported.
Outside of questionable sightings of the princess, she has not been seen in public since Christmas Day.
Middleton has asked for privacy for her and her family following the cancer announcement.
In a public announcement published by The Royal Observer, Middleton said:
“I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you personally for all the wonderful messages of support and understanding whilst I’ve been recovering from surgery,” Kate began in a video posted to social media. “It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family. In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London. At the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful, however, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised I should undergo preventive chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”
“This of course comes as a huge shock and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage for our young family. It has taken my time for me to recover from my surgery,” she continued. “Most importantly, it has taken us time to explain to George, Charlotte and Louis and to reassure them I am going to be OK. As I’ve said to them, I am well. Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and the love and support and kindness that has been shown from so many of you. As a family, we need some time, space and privacy while I completely my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy. I must focus on making a full recovery. At this time, I am also thinking of those whose lives have been affected by cancer. Please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”
Sources close to the future queen claim she is “feeling good” in the final stages and has been “seen regularly” taking her children to school, The Royal Observer reports.
