MSNBC Interviews Iowa Farmer Who Supports Trump’s Trade War

MSNBC’s Vaughn Hillyard interviewed an Iowa farmer who supports President Trump’s ongoing trade war with China on Monday ahead of the president’s speech at the annual American Farm Bureau Federation Convention.

“They have told us, along with his farmer friends here, that this last year has been everything but certainty, which is what farmers rely on. You’ve got bad weather, you’ve got the trade tariffs, and now you got a government shutdown,” Hillyard reported.

“I think he got elected because he’s not a career politician. He’s willing to throw a hand grenade into anything to blow it up and do things his way,” Brent Renner, an Iowa farmer, told Hillyard.

Hillyard pointed out that Renner had borne “some of the brunt of that grenade” and asked Renner whether it had been worth it for the country.

“That’s a tough question to answer,” Renner said. “I think a lot of those questions are going to be answered maybe [in] two to four [years], maybe even longer down the road.”

“Somebody had to stand up to China,” Renner added.
