Since Joe Biden has been in office, he has been talking about building the American economy from the middle class out.
That, of course, has not happened at all.
We have seen business close, manufacturing deals dry up, and now a major Tyson food plant is calling it quits, costing roughly 1,200 Iowans their jobs.
Time to Call It a Day
Tyson has been struggling over the last few years, having already closed two of its plants last year.
At the time Tyson announced those closings, it stated that it would likely be shuttering four more plants by the end of the first half of fiscal year 2024.
One of those facilities would appear to be the Iowa plant, with its closing announced on Monday.
A Tyson spokesperson stated, “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close our Perry, Iowa, pork facility.”
This is devastating for locals, as Perry, IA, only has about 7,800 people, many of them working at this plant.
Tyson does have other operations in the area, and while it hopes to absorb some of these folks, it will clearly not be able to find new jobs for all of them (Tyson has about 9,000 positions still employed in the area).
Perry Mayor Dirk Cavanaugh was clearly distraught over the announcement, stating, “It’s our economic base.”
Governor Kim Reynolds stated that the local agencies were “already engaged” with workers who will be separated, adding, “We stand ready to assist impacted employees with finding new jobs in the area as soon as possible.”
The Iowa job website currently has about 60,000 openings, so hopefully, all these people will be able to find work with comparative compensation to the jobs they held before.
You better believe Republicans and the Trump campaign will pounce on this to attack Democrats and Joe Biden over his Bidenomics plan, which Biden continues to insist is working for middle-class America.
Tell that to the more than 1,200 employees who just lost their jobs.
