11-Year-Old With the Last Name ‘Trump’ Forced to Home School

An 11-year-old Delaware boy has decided he will no longer be using his last name “Trump” after constant bullying and harassment.

“Joshua Trump” will now be called “Joshua Berto,” which is his father’s surname, his mom, Megan Trump, told ABC Philadelphia station WPVI.

What led to this change reminds us how cruel kids can be.

“They curse at him, they call him an idiot, they call him stupid,” she said. Mrs. Trump says the bullying began ever since Donald Trump began his campaign for president, though the family has no relation to the current White House occupant.

Bullying in this country is getting out of hand

“He was getting ridiculed and bullied for the fact that his last name was Trump,” Bobby Berto, Joshua’s father, told WPVI. “I pulled him out of school and home-schooled him for a year.”

Since Joshua started middle school this year, his parents made a point to inform school officials about the problems he had last year.

The principal of Talley Middle School, Mark Mayer, acknowledges the problem. “I do know the teachers were aware of the last name, and I know in speaking with the student that the teachers do their very best to try not to say his last name,” Mayer said.

Still, the bullying didn’t stop. Imagine how frustrating it must be to watch your child go through this, virtually helpless. You can’t blame the parents for homeschooling their child for some time but he should also have the ability to attend conventional school if he so wishes.

“He said he hates himself, and he hates his last name, and he feels sad all the time, and he doesn’t want to live feeling like that anymore, and as a parent that’s scary,” Megan Trump said.

Bullying has become a major problem in schools. This poor child being treated so harshly by fellow students for no reason other than his last name is yet another heartbreaking example.
