House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced on Friday that he raised $60 million for House Republicans so far during the 2018 election cycle.
According to Politico Playbook:
“House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has transferred $5.71 MILLION to the NRCC and state party committees over the last two weeks, in addition to moving $1.51 million to members. McCarthy has raised $60 million this cycle. He’s transferred $18.3 million to the NRCC and state party committees and $5.77 million to members.”
This massive haul by McCarthy makes him the most prolific fundraiser that the House Republican have, outside of Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI).
When Ryan announced earlier this year that he would be retiring from Congress at the end of his term, there was debate over who would replace Ryan as leader of the House Republicans.
But more importantly, there was great concern among Republicans as to who could replace Ryan’s fundraising abilities.
After Ryan’s announcement, there was speculation that this role would either be filled by McCarthy or House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA).
Scalise has raised just $15 million for House Republicans this election cycle, putting him $45 million behind McCarthy.
While it’s still uncertain which political party will win control of the House after Election Day, one thing is clear: with just over three weeks to go, McCarthy has decisively won the fundraising battle among House Republicans.
