A timely video about a $25 McDonald’s “deal” recorded in the drive-thru of a Southern California McDonald’s location is making the rounds online.
The video comes after the state of California recently raised the minimum wage for fast-food workers from $16 to $20.
The “deal” highlighted is a 40-piece Chicken McNugget meal deal for four people, which also included two large fries, for the robust price of $25.39, which does not include beverages — for what it’s worth, drinks are where all the profit is for fast food companies.
“OK, so it’s $25.39 for 40-piece nuggets and two large fries,” TikTok user @shannon_montipaya said in the clip. “You couldn’t even throw in the Sprite?”
This TikTok went viral for calling out a McDonald’s “deal” where 40 nuggets and two large fries cost $25.39. The creator calls it “McFlation”

Fox Business noted that the video “demonstrates how prices at the fast-food chain have risen over the years.”
The network cited a recent study by FinanceBuzz to report that McDonald’s prices have increased by 100% since 2014: “Ten years ago, the average price of a 10-piece McNugget meal was $5.99. Now, the meal usually goes for $10.99.”
One TikTok user responded, “20 minimum wage…..welcome to your new normal.”
Another said, “Welcome to California.”
Truth is, between inflation, high costs, and benevolent Democratic politicians, the restaurant industry is between a rock and a hard place.
Here’s a quick sampling of other responses to the story, as seen on X:

What did people think would happen if you raised the minimum wage to $20 dollars an hour?

Did anyone really think they’d swallow that loss and not put it on the customers? Does anyone believe that they will keep all staff and not downsize them so that service will become worse and take more time?
Why are people surprised that a company wants to keep its profits?
