And here we go. On Friday evening, President Trump followed through on his promise to sue the Wall Street Journal and its parent company, News Corp, for publishing a letter that was allegedly written by him as part of Jeffrey Epstein’s 50th birthday book.
The letter itself, as Toni covered here, is more than a little odd. Even people who have issues or open rifts with Trump have their doubts about that letter.
It really doesn’t sound like something Trump would say tbh

Could Trump have signed it after tasking someone else to write it? Possibly. It’s worth noting that Epstein turned 50 in 2003, before he was first investigated and arrested for child sex abuse and explotation charges in 2005. The leak of this letter, if authentic, also confirms one other thing – there is nothing about Trump in the Epstein case files. Anything that was there would have been either leaked or released by the Biden administration, which had access to ALL the documentation for FOUR YEARS, as the Washington Post “fact checker” Glenn Kessler admitted on Thursday.
But President Trump is indignant and insistent that the letter is a fake – and on Friday, he filed suit against everyone involved – the reporters, the Wall Street Journal, parent company News Corp, the CEO of News Corp, and Rupert Murdoch. Trump announced the lawsuit on Truth Social.

And as is customary for lawsuits of this kind, he’s asking for a big monetary punishment.
Trump, who angrily denies writing the letter, is seeking damages of no less than $10 billion in the lawsuit alleging defamation.
Named as defendants in the suit in federal court in the Southern District of Florida are Murdoch, his company News Corp and its CEO Robert Thomson, the Journal’s publisher, Dow Jones & Co., and the two reporters who wrote the article published Thursday evening.
A Dow Jones spokesperson sent the following statement to CNBC: “We have full confidence in the rigor and accuracy of our reporting, and will vigorously defend against any lawsuit.”
And Rupert Murdoch is not going to deal with this lawsuit quietly. He has a reputation, and he would probably rather die than concede to Trump. (Depending on how long this lawsuit lasts, death might be on the table – Murdoch is currently 94 years old.)
We simply don’t know if the letter is authentic. Obviously, Donald Trump cares whether or not people think it is real, because he’s suing over it. Now, could he be suing to save face in the middle of all the Epstein chaos that simply isn’t going away? Sure. If it is real, does it prove anything? Um, not really. Again, this would have been written BEFORE Jeffrey Epstein was first investigated for his crimes, and he was well known for hanging out with the rich and famous – after all, there are pictures of him with SO MANY people. Honestly, it would answer a lot of questions if investigators either dug fully into, or released what they have, on Epstein’s financial records. If his financials were fully exposed and transparent, it would explain a lot about how and where he got his money to keep perpetrating his crimes. Epstein was accused stealing millions by his former client, Leslie Wexner (founder of brands like Victoria’s Secret), to whom he acted as financial advisor. However, once Epstein died, Wexner no longer wanted to talk about the supposed theft. Was this embarrassment on Wexner’s part on being taken in by Epstein? We don’t know. But exposing how Epstein got his money would go a long way toward explaining things.
Honestly, if this alleged birthday letter is the worst thing that the press has on Donald Trump when it comes to Jeffrey Epstein, then they don’t have anything else. Is the publication of this letter worth a lawsuit to Donald Trump? Apparently he thinks so. He’s paying his own lawyers for this one, so it’s his money to burn. He isn’t wrong about discovery and depositions, though – how DID the Wall Street Journal get access to this album, for instance? – and that may be what Trump is counting on. After all, CBS just settled with Trump rather than go through discovery over the “60 Minutes” Kamala Harris interview. The media often has plenty of dirty laundry, and they’d like to keep theirs hidden while pointing at the dirty laundry of others. And if there is one thing that Donald Trump is consistently good at, it is getting the media to either expose themselves, or paying him to go away after their bias overwhelms any professional judgment. It sounds as if Murdoch and the Wall Street Journal are down for a fight. We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out, but it will take months. Filing the suit is just the gauntlet being thrown down to start the legal rumble.
