The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will soon interview four top Biden administration White House aides about the former president’s term in office.
The committee is expected to ask the individuals in question about Biden’s mental acuity while in office, as well as some of his other more debatable actions, such as the use of an auto-pen, as The Hill reported.
The committee is expected to hear from former Biden press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, White House counsel office spokesperson Ian Sams, senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates, and chief of staff Jeff Zients.
Committee Goals
House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) requested the talks with the officials earlier this month in light of the fact that Biden has denied any mental issues while in office.
“The scope of your responsibilities—both official and otherwise—and personal interactions within the Oval Office cannot go without investigation, given the mounting evidence that President Biden was incapacitated for much, if not all, of his single term,” Comer said in his letters to Sams and Bates.
“If White House staff carried out a strategy lasting months or even years to hide the chief executive’s condition—or to perform his duties—Congress may need to consider a legislative response.”
Jean-Pierre was possibly the most high-profile of the group that is being asked to appear, and she was put under a microscope after Biden’s horrific debate performance that led to intense pressure for him to leave the debate.
Her Big Change
This isn’t the first time in recent history that the former White House Press Secretary has made headlines.
Just last month, it was reported that Jean-Pierre was no longer a Democrat, having left the party that she formerly served in a high-profile position, altogether.
Following the writing of her new book, which will be released this fall, she announced that she is now an Independent, something that the book, “Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines,” delves into.
Jean-Pierre shares that the book is about “why Americans must step beyond party lines to embrace life as Independents.”
More From the Book
Jean-Pierre’s publisher, Hachette Book Group, says that the book is about what it took for the former White House staffer to jump ship from her prior party:
“Jean-Pierre didn’t come to her decision to be an Independent lightly,” the book teaser says, pointing to the massive change.
“She takes us through the three weeks that led to Biden’s abandoning his bid for a second term and the betrayal by the Democratic Party that led to his decision.”
The book will be released on Oct. 21 of this year, and will be the most recent in a list of books written on the former administration, including one by Jake Tapper of CNN and Alex Thompson of Axios, called “Original Sin.”
