The Trump administration is offering former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers bonuses up to $50,000 to rejoin the agency.
This initiative comes as ICE receives increased funding to intensify migrant deportation efforts.
An email sent by ICE to retired employees, obtained by The Post, urged former agents to return.
It stated, “You served the United States of America with distinction and honor. Now, your country calls upon you to serve once more.”
The message criticized the previous administration’s immigration policies, describing them as “disastrous.” It said ICE officers now face unprecedented challenges and emphasized the need for experienced personnel to secure communities and enforce laws.
The recruitment effort is called “Operation Return to Mission.” It targets former ICE employees with the promise of returning to their previous roles and locations.
Returning agents may qualify for multiple financial incentives, according to the New York Post.
These include a $10,000 signing bonus upon rejoining, another $10,000 for applications submitted by August 1, and annual $10,000 bonuses for up to three years.
The agency is also offering “dual compensation waivers,” allowing retirees to keep pension benefits while returning to work. The email described returning to ICE as an “honorable, indispensable service to our nation.”
President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act on July 4, providing ICE with $75 billion in additional funding. The legislation allocates $30 billion for arrest and deportation efforts and $45 billion to expand detention capacity.
This funding boost enables ICE to grow its workforce significantly. The agency said its recruitment begins with inviting former colleagues back.
ICE’s Return to Mission website offers two job tracks: Deportation Officer and Criminal Investigator. Salaries for these roles range from $88,000 to $171,000 annually.
Positions available are “term appointments” lasting more than one year but not exceeding four years, according to the website.
The Trump administration highlighted its commitment to supporting law enforcement professionals who secure borders and protect national security.
The recruitment campaign emphasizes the critical nature of this moment in the country’s history and the vital need for experienced ICE officers.
ICE and the Department of Homeland Security have not yet responded to requests for comment from The Post.
The agency’s effort to bring back former agents reflects a push to reinforce its capacity to carry out President Trump’s immigration enforcement priorities.
Officials believe the incentives and enhanced funding will attract skilled former employees to rejoin the agency during this expanded enforcement phase.
