
Israel apologized for striking Gaza’s Holy Family Church, which killed three people, after President Trump called Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to criticize the military strike.
An Israeli shell hit the territory’s only Catholic church on Thursday morning, which injured several others in addition to those killed, according to the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, Politico reported. Many of Gaza’s small Catholic community have sheltered in the church since the war began.
“Israel deeply regrets that a stray ammunition hit Gaza’s Holy Family Church. Every innocent life lost is a tragedy,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement, adding that an investigation is being conducted into the incident.
After the strike, Trump called Netanyahu.
