White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller delivered a blunt and uncompromising assessment of U.S. immigration policy on Jesse Watters Primetime Wednesday night, revealing that over one million illegal immigrants have reportedly self-deported under the reinstated Trump administration’s enforcement-first approach.
Citing labor force data, Miller told host Jesse Watters, “Under Trump, all job gains have gone to Americans… We believe there’s already been a million self-deportations.” Miller attributed the trend to the administration’s aggressive messaging and legal framework — a policy shift focused on “consequences versus opportunities.”

He elaborated on the current strategy: “If you stay, here’s the consequences: sudden arrest, sudden deportation, garnishment of income, loss of property, imprisonment for immigration and other crimes.” Conversely, those who voluntarily return home are eligible for a $1,000 departure incentive and may apply for legal entry in the future.
Miller described this as a “clear choice,” stating the administration’s tactics are generating “a chilling effect” on new illegal crossings. June figures from Customs and Border Protection show a marked decline in unauthorized entries, which officials point to as validation of the enforcement model.
BREAKING: CBP reports June was the lowest month of illegal crossings ever recorded at the southern border, w/ just 6,072 for the month. The Biden admin routinely had 6,000+ in a single day.

Beyond numbers, Miller used the platform to address the systemic implications of unchecked immigration. “Who lives in your country determines what your country is,” he said. Pointing to long-failed state systems in Haiti and Somalia, he argued that mass importation of populations from unstable regions risks importing dysfunction rather than solving it.
“It’s not about the feelings you have for an individual immigrant,” Miller said. “It’s about what happens when this policy is enacted at a national scale.”

The remarks sparked immediate backlash from critics, but Miller’s framing underscored a foundational tenet of the administration’s immigration stance: a nation’s identity and viability depend on secure borders and deliberate demographic policy.
His closing message was unequivocal: “If you move the third world to the first world, eventually we become the third world. And that’s not good for anyone who wants to live here in the future.”
