In a major development for transatlantic energy and trade relations, Italian energy giant Eni has finalized a 20-year agreement to purchase 2 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually from American supplier Venture Global.
Valued at approximately $15 billion, the deal marks Eni’s first long-term LNG contract with a U.S. provider and positions the United States as a growing energy partner for Italy and Europe.
The agreement was announced shortly after Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s April visit to the White House, where she met with President Donald Trump. According to sources close to the matter, Meloni assured the U.S. administration that Italy would significantly increase its imports of American LNG in an effort to both diversify energy sources and strengthen economic ties with North America.
Under the deal, Eni will receive LNG from Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass 2 project in Louisiana, which is expected to become operational by the end of the decade. A spokesperson for Eni called the agreement “highly advantageous” for both parties, noting that it supports Eni’s goal of expanding its LNG portfolio to 20 million tons annually by 2030.
BREAKING: Another huge win for American energy dominance has just occurred…
…Italy agrees to purchase $15 BILLION in USA natural gas following Trump’s tariff threats.
This makes Italy more reliant on the US instead of RUSSIA for energy across 20 YEARS.

Italy currently relies heavily on fossil fuels, with natural gas and oil accounting for over 70% of its energy mix. Reducing dependence on Russian energy has been a high priority for both Rome and Brussels, particularly since the onset of instability and aggressive foreign policy moves from the Kremlin.
By securing a long-term supply contract with a U.S. partner, Eni is not only addressing immediate supply diversification needs but also gaining a more stable and politically aligned source of energy. The United States, now one of the world’s top producers of natural gas, offers supply security that Europe increasingly values in light of geopolitical uncertainty.
The timing of the deal is also significant. It comes amid ongoing U.S.–EU negotiations regarding proposed 30% tariffs on European exports. While Eni declined to comment on the tariff discussions, the agreement demonstrates a strategic alignment between Rome and Washington at a critical juncture.
Last month, Venture Global also expanded its European footprint by signing a separate LNG supply deal with Germany’s SEFE Energy GmbH, indicating that U.S. energy firms are becoming key suppliers to multiple European economies.
