President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that The Coca-Cola Company has agreed to a significant change in its product formulation for U.S. beverages.
The company will replace high fructose corn syrup with cane sugar in its Coca-Cola products sold in the United States, according to Trump.
“I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so,” Trump posted.
“I’d like to thank all of those in authority at Coca-Cola. This will be a very good move by them — You’ll see. It’s just better!”
As of the time of Trump’s announcement, Coca-Cola has not issued a public statement confirming the decision.
There is no press release, investor disclosure or formal confirmation from the company’s media channels or executives.
Currently, Coca-Cola’s official website states that its classic Coke product sold in the United States contains high fructose corn syrup.
This sweetener has been used in American versions of the drink since the early 1980s, largely due to cost advantages and domestic supply.
If implemented, the change would represent a major shift in product formulation for the U.S. and Canadian markets.
Coca-Cola products outside of these regions, including countries such as Mexico, often use cane sugar instead of corn syrup.
Many U.S. consumers seek out imported “Mexican Coke” for its taste, which they associate with the original cane sugar formulation.
The popularity of cane sugar Coca-Cola has created a niche market in the United States.
These imported versions, often sold in glass bottles, are distributed through specialty retailers and are sometimes marketed as having a “cleaner” or more “classic” taste.
This perception has persisted for decades despite both sweeteners being considered safe by the Food and Drug Administration, per The Post Millennial (TPM) reporting.
The president did not disclose the nature of his communications with Coca-Cola or provide specific details about how the agreement was reached.
Trump’s post did not mention whether he spoke directly to Coca-Cola executives, board members or other decision-makers within the company.
Trump’s announcement quickly circulated across social media platforms, especially among his supporters.
Some users praised the move as a win for traditional ingredients and consumer choice. Others questioned whether the company would follow through without an official statement or timeline.
Resist the Mainstream reported earlier this week on Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. leading a nationwide effort to remove artificial food dyes from ice cream.
This move is part of his broader “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) campaign.
The initiative, announced alongside the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), involves more than 40 ice cream manufacturers pledging to eliminate synthetic colors from their products by the end of 2027.
The agreement targets a list of synthetic dyes, including Red 3, Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1, Blue 2 and Green 3—many of which are commonly found in processed foods.
U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary praised the shift as a major step forward for public health.
“This is a Renaissance moment for health in America,” he said during the announcement.
