Elon Musk launched a scathing attack against Donald Trump on Wednesday following the president’s attempt to dismiss Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking scandal as a Democratic hoax.
The Tesla billionaire demolished Trump’s latest assertion by highlighting undeniable facts, including that Epstein’s former associate Ghislaine Maxwell remains imprisoned in federal custody.
Musk wrote on his X platform: “Wow, amazing that Epstein ‘killed himself’ and Ghislaine is in federal prison for a hoax.”
The SpaceX CEO followed up with another post stating: “He should just release the files and point out which part is the hoax.”
Musk’s sustained criticism reflected mounting frustration within Trump’s MAGA coalition regarding the president’s management of the Epstein documentation.
Activist Riley Gaines criticized the president for characterizing individuals seeking additional information about Epstein as either “stupid” or “foolish.”
Trump’s preferred comedian Shane Gillis joked that he was scheduled to deliver an Epstein-related joke at the ESPYS “but I guess it got deleted” and “probably never existed.”
Amid this controversy, Attorney General Pam Bondi terminated Manhattan federal prosecutor Maureen Comey, who had compiled federal evidence against both Epstein and Maxwell.
Maureen Comey, daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, had argued in 2024 against releasing Epstein investigation documents due to concerns about “possible embarrassment and harassment” of victims.
Trump has accused James Comey of fabricating the Epstein files alongside former President Obama and Hillary Clinton.
The president stated Tuesday at the White House: “I would say that, you know, these files were made up by Comey, they were made up by Obama, they were made up by the Biden.”
Wednesday’s backlash intensified when Trump characterized the scandal as a hoax during an Oval Office appearance with Bahrain’s Crown Prince.
Trump declared: “I know it’s a hoax. It’s started by Democrats,” despite campaign promises to release all related documentation.
The president continued: “It’s been run by the Democrats for four years,” while condemning “some stupid Republicans and foolish Republicans” who believe in an Epstein client list.
The Daily Beast reported that Musk posted about Epstein thirteen times within an hour Wednesday afternoon, expressing outrage that “not a single Epstein client has been prosecuted.”
Musk responded to influencer Kaizen Asiedu’s criticism: “Trump’s team hyped the release. Trump’s team fumbled the release. Yet Trump is blaming the Democrats and insulting his supporters for the consequences of his actions.”
The billionaire summarized Trump’s approach: “1. Admit nothing 2. Deny everything 3. Make counterclaims. But it won’t work this time.”
Musk had previously warned that the administration’s handling of the Epstein case would be the “final straw” for many Republicans.
The Tesla CEO had previously claimed Trump appeared in the financier’s client list.
Numerous Trump supporters have accused the administration of concealing information to protect high-profile individuals who may have participated in Epstein’s trafficking network.
FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino have previously suggested Epstein may have been murdered and maintained a blackmail client list.
The Daily Mail reported that former Fox News host Megyn Kelly stated on The Megyn Kelly Show: “There is something there, and it’s being covered up, and the president blessed it.”
Kelly criticized Attorney General Pam Bondi for “multiple inconsistent statements” after apparently stating in February that Epstein’s client list was “sitting on [her] desk right now to review” while currently denying such documentation exists.
Trump defended his attorney general and granted her permission Wednesday to release credible materials related to the case.
The president stated: “Whatever is credible she can release. If a document is credible, if a document’s there that is credible, she can release.”
Trump suggested appointing a special prosecutor to investigate Epstein’s connections, though he appeared more focused on proving his Democratic hoax allegations.
