Governor Ron DeSantis just unveiled a plan that has the left completely losing their minds.
He’s doubling down on his immigration crackdown in a way that nobody saw coming.
And Ron DeSantis dropped one jaw-dropping announcement that has immigration activists boiling over.
DeSantis announces plans for second immigrant detention facility
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis revealed Wednesday that his administration is actively working on establishing a second immigrant detention center at Camp Blanding, a military training site positioned roughly 30 miles southwest of Jacksonville.
This bombshell announcement comes as construction continues on the controversial “Alligator Alcatraz” facility in the Everglades, which has already sent Democrat activists into a complete meltdown.
During his Tampa appearance, DeSantis made it crystal clear that Florida isn’t backing down from its aggressive stance on illegal immigration.
“We can’t have every illegal housed in our jails cause we actually have non-illegals who need to be housed in there when they commit a crime too,” DeSantis declared.

The governor explained that the Florida Division of Emergency Management is already “working on that” regarding the Camp Blanding facility, with Kevin Guthrie leading the charge.
“We have some capacity there,” DeSantis said, referring to the sprawling 73,000-acre military training site.
Immigration activists go into full panic mode
The announcement immediately triggered a furious response from immigration advocacy groups who are desperately trying to stop Florida’s common-sense approach to border security.
Maria Asuncion Bilbao from the American Friends Service Committee told the Associated Press that the plans represent a “theatricalization of cruelty,” showing just how out of touch these activists are with the concerns of everyday Americans.
According to reports, Bilbao expressed deep concerns about what she called “the level of dehumanization” occurring with these policies.
The Jacksonville Immigrant Rights Alliance also jumped into the fray, with spokesperson Maria Garcia claiming that Northeast Florida residents don’t want the facility in their area.
“It’s just a shame that they’re using the lie about this being for security to house people that, for the vast majority, don’t have any type of criminal record,” Garcia complained.
But local law enforcement is telling a completely different story.
Local sheriffs fully support DeSantis’s bold plan
Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook confirmed she has been in communication with state officials about the Camp Blanding proposal and expressed her office’s full support.
“I have been in contact with the state and we are fully supportive of the Governor’s efforts. However, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office has not been asked to provide personnel or resources at this time,” Cook stated.
Bradford County Sheriff Gordon Smith went even further, calling DeSantis’s approach both “thoughtful and necessary.”
“I fully support Governor Ron DeSantis and his wise decision to establish a facility dedicated to housing illegal immigrants for the purpose of facilitating their return to their country of origin,” Smith said in a statement.
Smith pointed out that with 73,000 acres and existing infrastructure, Camp Blanding represents “a thoughtful and responsible approach” to dealing with the immigration crisis.
“Bradford County already hosts several correctional facilities housing thousands of convicted felons, yet we remain one of the safest places to live in Florida,” the sheriff noted.
Florida becomes force multiplier for Trump administration
DeSantis made it clear that Florida’s efforts are designed to support President Donald Trump’s aggressive deportation agenda.
The state is committed to helping the federal government more than double its current capacity from 41,000 detention beds to over 100,000 beds nationwide.
Florida plans to provide 5,000 beds by early July through temporary facilities including heavy-duty tents and trailers.
“Florida will be a force multiplier for the federal government and will continue to lead national immigration law enforcement,” DeSantis declared.
The federal government will reimburse Florida for the costs, with the “Alligator Alcatraz” facility alone estimated to cost $450 million per year at $245 per bed per day.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will cover these expenses as part of the coordinated effort between state and federal authorities.
Democrats and activists resort to desperate scare tactics
Unable to counter DeSantis’s logical arguments, opponents are resorting to increasingly hysterical rhetoric.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava is demanding “a thorough environmental and social review” before any land transfers, showing how Democrats will use any excuse to obstruct common-sense immigration enforcement.
Immigration activists are also spreading fear about conditions at existing detention facilities, claiming there are reports of inadequate water, food, and medical care.
But these same activists never seem concerned about the Americans who are victimized by illegal immigrant criminals or the strain that sanctuary policies place on local communities.
What this means for America’s immigration future
DeSantis’s bold expansion of detention capacity represents exactly the kind of leadership America needs to solve the border crisis.
By partnering with the Trump administration and providing real solutions instead of empty rhetoric, Florida is showing other states how to take meaningful action.
The fact that local sheriffs are enthusiastically supporting these efforts while activists throw tantrums tells you everything you need to know about whose side the American people are on.
This isn’t just about Florida anymore.
It’s about whether states will step up and help President Trump deliver on his promise to secure America’s borders and restore the rule of law.
DeSantis has made it clear that Florida will be leading the charge.
