U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) just indicated that he will not be overruling the Senate parliamentarian.
This comes, according to Breitbart News, after the Senate parliamentarian, Elizabeth MacDonough, axed more provisions of President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill.”
Now, in addition to the calls to overrule MacDonough, some are also calling for her to be fired. It seems unlike, however, that either events will happen.
🚨 OUTRAGEOUS: Senate Leader John Thune has DECIDED NOT to FIRE Harry Reid’s unelected Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough, who is GUTTING Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill!
Medicaid for illegals, sanctuary cities funding, energy drilling now need 60 votes instead of 50+1!

The latest rejection
The Daily Caller reports on MacDonough’s latest ruling on Trump’s bill.
“MacDonough has advised Senate Republicans that major reforms to Medicaid will have to be struck from the president’s landmark bill to comply with stringent budget rules,” the outlet writes.
It adds, “MacDonough has thus far flagged 47 provisions that must be stripped from the bill or revised to comply with Senate rules, effectively forcing Senate Republicans to go back to the drawing board to rewrite major sections of the bill.”
Trump’s bill, of course, has already made it through the U.S. House of Representatives. It has been a different story, however, in the Senate. After making it there, it became apparent that the bill would not have enough support to pass, and this is when Senate Republicans created their own version of the legislation.
That was a couple of weeks ago. Since then, as the Daily Caller reports, MacDonough has struck down dozens of the bill’s provisions.
Thune weighs in
Suffice it to say that Republicans are not too happy with MacDonough. Many are calling for Thune to simply overrule MacDonough, but Thune has already indicated that he will not be doing so.
“No. That would not be a good outcome for getting a bill done,” Thune said in response to a question about whether he is considering overruling MacDonough.
Others have taken things a step further, calling upon MacDonough to be fired from the Senate Parliamentarian position.
U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), for example, has said:
The WOKE Senate Parliamentarian, who was appointed by Harry Reid and advised Al Gore, just STRUCK DOWN a provision BANNING illegals from stealing Medicaid from American citizens. This is a perfect example of why Americans hate THE SWAMP. Unelected bureaucrats think they know better than U.S. Congressmen who are elected BY THE PEOPLE. Her job is not to push a woke agenda. THE SENATE PARLIAMENTARIAN SHOULD BE FIRED ASAP.
For those unfamiliar with the Senate parliamentarian, it is supposed to be an unelected, nonpartisan official who ensures that legislation complies with the upper chamber’s rules and procedures. MacDonough, though, according to many, has gone too far.
