PHILADELPHIA, PA – Authorities are on high alert following a daring armored truck heist in Philadelphia’s Port Richmond area, where two suspects made off with a significant sum of money. The FBI has joined local law enforcement in their investigation, seeking to unravel how the thieves managed to execute the bold robbery.
The incident unfolded just before 8 a.m. when a Brinks truck, parked outside a Home Depot on East Thompson Street, became the target of the heist. Sources indicate that the driver, alone in the vehicle, was approached by two armed men who swiftly made off with over $1 million in cash, as well as the driver’s firearm.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as investigators flooded the area, cordoning off sections of the parking lot with tape. “I pulled up and saw the truck, but I had no idea what was happening,” said one shopper. “It’s crazy.”
The suspects, clad in black attire and ski masks, ambushed the driver and quickly vanished, leaving behind a trail of questions. Investigators concentrated their efforts on a nearby alley, hoping to gather crucial evidence.
Residents expressed concern over the breach of safety in their community. “You think about doing something like that, you know you’re going to get caught,” said a local resident. “This kind of thing never happens around here.”
Authorities are also examining a similar armored truck robbery that occurred on June 2 in Queens, New York. That incident involved two suspects who robbed a driver and armed guard of a weapon and $300,000 in cash, raising suspicions of a possible connection between the two heists.
Back in Philadelphia, the search for the suspects continues. Police report that the armed men were last seen fleeing southbound in a black Hyundai, sparking a citywide manhunt.
