While the left obsesses over pronouns and sanctuary cities, President Trump’s Department of Homeland Security is doing what it was created to do: defend the American people. On July 15, DHS announced the deportation of five illegal immigrants—convicted criminals—from our soil to the African nation of Eswatini. These aren’t minor offenders. These are the worst of the worst: murderers, rapists, gang members, and predators who had no business ever setting foot in this country.
And the kicker? Their home countries—Vietnam, Jamaica, Cuba, Yemen, and Laos—refused to take them back. That’s right. These nations didn’t want their own citizens returned because their crimes were so heinous. As Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin put it, these individuals were “so uniquely barbaric” that even their native governments slammed the door on them. But instead of giving up, the Trump administration found a workaround: third-country deportation.
This is what America First looks like in action. When the system is broken, you fix it. When laws are blocked by activist judges, you fight to restore order. And when foreign governments refuse to cooperate, you find ones that will.
Let’s be clear about who these people were. We’re not talking about someone overstaying a visa or crossing the border in desperation. These individuals were convicted of murder, child rape, battery, assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft auto, and cruelty to a dependent adult. One was a confirmed gang member. They “terrorized American communities,” McLaughlin said—and now, they’re gone.
This isn’t just a win for public safety; it’s a win for the rule of law. The left spent years tying the hands of law enforcement, portraying ICE as villains, and treating illegal aliens like victims no matter their crimes. Under Biden, deportations plummeted, and violent criminals walked free. But under Trump, we’re seeing a return to sanity—where U.S. sovereignty means something and criminal illegals don’t get a free pass.
This latest deportation comes on the heels of a similar move in which eight criminal illegals were sent to South Sudan. That was possible because the Supreme Court, in a rare moment of clarity, lifted the lower court’s injunction that had blocked the deportation of illegals to third countries. That ruling gave DHS the green light to remove dangerous individuals even if their home nations wouldn’t take them back.
Of course, the usual suspects on the left will clutch their pearls and cry about “human rights.” But Eswatini officials have already said the deportees pose “no security threat to the nation” and will be handled according to international standards. They’ll be housed where similar offenders are kept and eventually returned to their countries of origin. Translation: they’re someone else’s problem now—and no longer a threat to American neighborhoods.
This didn’t happen by accident. According to Eswatini’s government, this operation followed “months of robust high-level engagements between the U.S. government and Eswatini.” That means Trump’s team put in the work. They built diplomatic coalitions, negotiated agreements, and made it clear that the United States will not be a dumping ground for the world’s criminals.
And let’s not forget what this says about the broader immigration debate. The left insists our system is too cruel, too rigid, too uncompassionate. But what’s truly cruel is allowing violent criminals to remain in our country and victimize innocent citizens. What’s unjust is tying the hands of ICE agents and turning every city into a potential sanctuary for predators. What’s uncompassionate is betraying the American people in the name of globalist idealism.
President Trump promised to secure our borders, enforce our laws, and protect our families. This is him keeping that promise. No more excuses. No more loopholes. No more criminals hiding behind the chaos of a broken immigration system.
It’s simple: if you come to this country illegally and commit violent crimes, you’re going to be deported—one way or another. And if your country won’t take you back, we’ll find a country that will. That’s leadership. That’s justice. And that’s the America we voted for.
