Former Marine reservist Benjamin Song has been arrested after a weeklong manhunt for his role in the armed Antifa ambush of an ICE detention facility in Alvarado, Texas. Song was taken into custody by FBI agents on Tuesday at a Dallas apartment complex. According to authorities, the July 4 attack was a planned terrorist-style assault on law enforcement. Antifa members dressed in black launched fireworks to draw police into the open before opening fire. One Alvarado officer was shot in the neck, and several vehicles were tagged with graffiti.

Song Charged in Violent Plot to Target Law Enforcement
Song is now the fourteenth person arrested in connection to the ambush. He faces federal charges of attempted murder of federal agents, discharging a firearm during a violent crime, and aiding in the commission of terrorism. Bail has been set at $5 million.
FBI Director Kash Patel announced: “CAPTURED: Benjamin Hanil Song… Attack cops, and this FBI will stop at nothing to find you.” Song allegedly purchased four of the guns used in the attack and helped coordinate the strike using encrypted messaging apps.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that the group used Signal chat groups for planning and surveillance, including sharing maps that outlined the positions of nearby police departments.
Coordinated Antifa Assault Planned to Lure and Ambush Officers
Federal complaints allege the attackers intended to draw officers into a trap by firing fireworks at the Prairieland Detention Center and vandalizing vehicles. When officers responded, Song and others opened fire from concealed positions near the woods.
Another shooter across the street reportedly fired up to 30 rounds at unarmed correctional officers. Song managed to flee the scene while ten suspects were caught trying to escape. Two others were later arrested for helping him hide.
Officials confirmed Song’s phone was tracked within several hundred meters of the facility until the next evening, further tying him to the site of the attack.
Wider Anti-ICE Violence Investigated by FBI
The Alvarado incident is one of three recent armed attacks on ICE agents. On July 7, a gunman opened fire at a Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, before being shot dead. On July 10, ICE agents were again attacked by gunfire during a raid in Ventura County, California.

The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information on the unknown California shooter. Song had a $25,000 bounty on his head prior to his arrest.
Federal authorities have vowed to bring all involved to justice. “The FBI will not tolerate acts of violence toward law enforcement,” said Special Agent R. Joseph Rothrock. “We will thoroughly investigate anyone who commits these types of offenses.”
