Mazzaroth Musings with Current Events

One time – in all of the Bible – one time is the Mazzaroth mentioned by name. It’s in the ancient text of Job, when God speaks to Job and tells him to brace himself because God has some questions for Job. Look at Job 38:32-33:

“Can you bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or can you guide Arcturus with his sons? Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you establish their rule on the earth?”

It’s an archaic Hebrew word only mentioned that one time in Scripture, but it’s the word the ancient Hebrews used for the twelve main constellations commonly called the Zodiac. Some translations vary the word Mazzaroth by saying “constellations” or “sequence of seasons”, but many get it right and don’t try to change the word.

There are a lot of questions in that chapter that God asks Job, things like, “Can you bind the chains of Pleiades? Or loose the cords of Orion?” [A couple verses later He asks if Job can cause it to flood. Today that answer would be yes through geoengineering, but that is a topic for another day. The battle of the gods is heating up.]

But the Mazzaroth, well those stars were put in an order that NEVER CHANGES, (even though their position in the sky does). Those stars cannot be altered by the efforts of man or gods. Those stars were named in ancient languages and across multiple cultures, traditions, and civilizations, and they tell a story man can only pervert, but cannot change. It’s one of the few things of Creation left that cannot be manipulated or destroyed by human effort.

[As an aside, did you know NASA contracted with Nikon last year with the Space Act Agreement, and the Nikon P1000 was discontinued three days later? That camera would let the average person see the night sky’s celestial bodies with startling detail.]

Mystics and scholars alike have studied those signs in the heavens for millennia. They have examined their arrangement, their timing, and their accompanying lesser constellations (called decans). Students of the Word have taught how the Mazzaroth depict the story of Redemption and its fascinatingly accurate aspects. [I’ll put some resources at the end.]

One of my favorite characteristics of God is His order, often His repetitive order. He likes to tell or show us something, and then retell or reproduce it in a variety of ways, so we can try to wrap our heads around His thoughts and intentions. Each constellation of the Mazzaroth depicts an aspect of the story of humanity: the actors, the themes, the plot of redemption, the heroes and anti-heroes. God has laid out His plans and purposes for Creation with perfect detail, long before we would understand its implications, long before most of the scenes, acts, and actors would happen on the main stage.

The western and/or modern church has steered its people away from the study of the signs in the heavens because of the occultic perversions to it, and it has left its people sadly ignorant and/or afraid of its truths and the story it tells. But the ancients knew it. The apostle John used elements of it in his apocalypse. [apocalypse means revelation or unveiling, not end of the world]

There are far wiser and more knowledgeable people to teach on this, and I would encourage anyone interested to find some of those fantastic teachers. But I wanted to touch on an aspect of the Mazzaroth that is particularly timely right now and in the coming years, and that’s the process that the sun takes as it weaves in and out of the Mazzaroth. The ancients paid attention to it because it helped them know what was in the mind of God.

The created order was the template

On the fourth day of Creation, God created those celestial beings and placed them in their created order expressly for signs, seasons, days and years. We kind of schmooze over those words as foregone conclusions sometimes, but that word signs in Hebrew is owth and literally means “a signal”. So some of those celestial beings are signals for something in the mind of God. What would God be signaling with the celestial bodies?

We connote spring, summer, autumn, and fall for seasons, but that’s not what it means in Genesis 1:14. That word seasons in Hebrew is moed and literally means “an appointment, appointed time or place, specifically a festival”. The celestial beings were to mark the festivals God outlined to Moses that the Israelites were to participate in. They were appointed times on God’s calendar for God’s purposes. The ancients were taught to watch the skies to understand things God wanted them to understand.

Twice a year the sun moves directly over the equator, dividing in equal parts the night and day. Those are the spring equinox and the autumn equinox. Twice a year the sun reaches its highest and lowest points in the sky, marking the shortest and longest days of the year. Those are the summer solstice (longest day) and winter solstice (shortest day).

The sun moves “backwards” through the Mazzaroth, about one degree of a 360-degree circle in about seventy years. Using the spring equinox as a guidepost, they’ve calculated it takes about 2100 years for the sun to move through one constellation. The ancient Hebrews called that span of time an age (or an eon).

The Mazzaroth celestial map looks like this:

 

To understand how the “story” is written in the stars, look at it in a wheel form like this:

 

This will simplify some things in that it will show how the Mazzaroth has an order, and that each constellation points across the expanse to another one. So Virgo points to Pisces, Gemini to Sagittarius and so on.

Keep in mind that we didn’t name the stars or the constellations, and though they are translated with slight differences in various languages, they all still pretty much have the same names or meanings in the various languages over the millennia of recorded history.

THE AGES FROM CREATION TO PRESENT

The Age of Gemini: Creation of the “twins”, perfection in the Garden

Working from our current celestial map backwards, we can ascertain that the Creation of Adam and Eve happened at the end of the age of Gemini (the twins – Eve was taken from the rib of Adam). This is when the sun was at the backside of the constellation. Gemini points across the sky to Sagittarius (the archer). The archer signifies a bow going forth, (being shot from the archer) and literally means “hitting the mark”. It’s almost like it’s saying God hit the mark with the Creation of Adam and Eve and the Garden. Ironically (or not), in the sky the constellation of the archer has the bow pointed directly at Scorpio, the sign of the Serpent.

The Age of Taurus: The strength of man and gods

The sun continued through Gemini and entered Taurus (the bull, sign of strength) at about the time of the Fall. In the (roughly) 2100 years of Taurus, recorded history tells of the fall of mankind, the corruption of humanity, and the Flood. That 2100 years was considered the age of the Bull. Taurus points across the sky to Scorpio, the sign of the Serpent (snake, adversary of God). The strength of man (bull, Taurus) was coupled with the death that came through the adversary of the Serpent of Old (i.e. Scorpio). Remember that death entered at the fall, and the fall was facilitated by the Serpent.

The Age of Aries: the sacrificial system was established within the Mosaic Law

The next age is the age of Aries (the ram, a sign of sacrifice), which points to Libra (the scales, the Law of justice). In that age Abraham covenants with God, and Moses is raised up to establish the Law for God’s people. That is the era (or age) of the Mosaic Law, the age of sacrifices which was sort of set off with Abraham and Isaac, and ran most of its course with a sacrificial system for atonement by the people of God, (as well as a counter simultaneous sacrificial system of the pagan gods of the world). Aries (sacrificial ram) was coupled with Libra (the scales of the Law). The age of Aries brought an end to the rule by the strength of men (and gods), and set up systems of law and religious sacrifice.

The Age of Pisces: fishers of men and followers of Christ were established

The end of that age had the sun move into Pisces (double fish), and the entrance of Jesus Christ, who commissioned fishermen as His disciples and called them to be fisher of men. Miracles with fish riddle the gospels, and the earliest Christians were known by the symbol of the fish. (Ichthus, fish, Greek mnemonic for: Iesus Christus, Uios Theou Sotēr meaning “Jesus Christ Son of God Saviour”) The sign of Pisces couples with the sign of Virgo, the virgin (or Bride).

When Jesus entered the scene and began expounding His truths to His disciples, He mentioned many times the “end of the age”. End – sunteleia in Hebrew, “entire completion, consummation” of the Age – aion (eon) in Hebrew, “an age”. (commonly mistranslated as world, or end of the world)

The end of what age? The age of Aries/sacrificial system and the Law. Christ came in at the end of the age of Aries, and was crucified at the beginning of the age of Pisces. The age of Pisces is coupled with Virgo… Jesus and the Bride. The Christian age transitioned us from a nation of God’s people to a world of God’s people. The Christian message from Paul and the disciples was no longer centered on the Mosaic Law but the law of Christ that worked from the inside out, versus the Mosaic Law from the outside in. The sacrificial system for sin was done away with forever in Christ.

The Age of Aquarius: the water bearer pouring water out of a vessel

Now we sit at the end of the age of Pisces (the fish) and are entering the age of Aquarius, the water bearer (a man pouring out water from a vessel). Jesus is called the Living Water and his living water is equated with eternal life. (John 4:14)

Aquarius points across the sky to Leo, the King. Christ is King.

Transition from one age to the next…

They estimate it takes several decades (up to a hundred years) for the sun to move completely out of one sign into the next because there’s an overlap where sometimes the sun is in both constellations for a period. Remember that it takes seventy years for the sun to move one degree in the sky. Those decades are considered the transition from one age to the next. The landscape on earth during that transitional time is, well, transitional. There are elements from both ages simultaneously present as Creation groans at the closure of one age and the opening of another. People groups long entrenched in one age’s customs and themes are usually resistant to the upcoming and inevitable changes by God’s appointment. It’s an awkward time, especially with the people of God, and especially when they’re not paying attention to the signs/signals God is giving about a change.

In the age of the Bull, the strength of man was prevalent on the earth. (The Fall was probably in the transition time between Gemini and Taurus.) In the age of the Bull, humans lived for centuries. The counterpoint to the strength of man was the Serpent (i.e. Scorpio) and its striking of the heel to compromise humanity, prophesied at the Fall in the Garden. From there, Nephilim and men of renown chose other gods to serve and influenced (bullied) the mass of humanity to follow suit. It was so grievous that the Flood was the remedy, and only the eight persons from Noah’s family survived to reset the world.

Ten generations from Noah, Abraham and the age of Aries arrived around the same time. Seven generations later, Moses led the offspring of the Abrahamic covenant into a covenant with the Law and the sacrificial system was established. Look at what Daniel (during the age of Aries) records that the angel told him:

Dan 12:13 “But as for you, go your way to the end; then you will enter into rest and rise again for your allotted portion at the end of the age.” What is the end of the age the angel is speaking of? The same age the disciples asked Christ about:

As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” (Matthew 24:3)

The disciples are referring to the same thing the angel speaking to Daniel was referring to… the end of the Aries age, NOT the end of the world. Daniel, Jesus and the disciples were all actors in the age of Aries. Jesus emphasized the coming end of the Aries age as He instructed the disciples on the new process for the age of Pisces:

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, ” All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” [Mt. 28:18-20]

Why does He say the end of the AGE (eon) and not the end of TIME (chronos)? Because they’re two different things.

The next 2100 years would be the age of fish, fishing men for the Kingdom of God. And Christ’s last recorded words were go make disciples of ALL NATIONS (people groups, no longer one nation – that was the theme in the age of Aries) and do it this way [NOT through the Mosaic law of sacrificial ritual, but through the infilling of the Holy Spirit and transformed lives to the likeness of Christ), and don’t worry, because I’ll be with you through that whole age.

I spend a lot of time looking at what the enemy is doing in current events, but it’s way more important to see what God is doing. We’re in the transition between ages, and ages look dramatically different one from another. What would a water-bearer-pouring-out-water age look like? The age of Aquarius is both here and coming into its fullness. Its counterpoint is Leo… the Lion… the King.

Current events sure seem messy, maybe even transitional. What is on the heart of God for this appointed age?
