White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to questions on Thursday about the Epstein files, or what President Donald Trump has been calling the Epstein “hoax,” and to a report that claimed Trump would back the appointment of a special prosecutor to handle the case.
“The President said that he floated the idea of a special prosecutor in the Epstein case. Can you confirm that? And has he asked the Attorney General to do this, to appoint a special prosecutor, to look it over?” A reporter asked.
“Well, the idea was floated from someone in the media to the President,” Leavitt said. “The President would not recommend a special prosecutor in the Epstein case. That’s how he feels. And as for his discussions with the Attorney General, I’m not sure.”
This question and answer follow a report from Just the News’ John Solomon on Wednesday, in which Solomon said that during an interview he held with Trump, the president said that he would back the appointment of a special prosecutor.
