OMAHA, NE – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of a high-ranking MS-13 gang member, one of El Salvador’s top 100 most wanted fugitives, in Omaha. The suspect, accused of multiple murders and other violent crimes, was detained alongside an associate, René Sol Escobar Ochoa.
Authorities report the individual is implicated in the killing of five people and faces charges such as attempted aggravated homicide and affiliation with a terrorist organization. While the suspect’s identity remains undisclosed, ICE confirmed both men were apprehended without incident during a targeted operation.
Video footage of the arrest shows officers instructing the vehicle’s occupants to exit. Moments later, a man is seen surrendering with his hands raised. Both individuals are reportedly in the U.S. illegally, with Escobar Ochoa also identified as an MS-13 member wanted in El Salvador for orchestrating crimes like homicides and drug trafficking.
ICE Special Agent Mark Zito emphasized the threat posed by the duo to the Omaha community, stating they mistakenly believed they could evade capture in the U.S. heartland. He assured the public that such criminals would not find refuge on American soil.
Escobar Ochoa is currently detained at the Hardin County Correctional Center. The operation underscores ICE’s commitment to safeguarding communities from international criminal elements.
This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts to dismantle dangerous networks and ensure public safety. The collaboration between local and federal agencies played a crucial role in this successful operation.
Local residents expressed relief, acknowledging the importance of ICE’s vigilance in maintaining security in their neighborhoods. The arrests serve as a reminder of the persistent challenges posed by transnational gangs.
The investigation remains active as authorities continue to gather information on the suspects’ activities and connections within the region.
