Florida Governor sees major opportunity as NYC chooses socialism
Democrat socialist Zohran Mamdani shocked the political world Tuesday night when he defeated heavily favored former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democrat primary for New York City mayor.
Mamdani, a Ugandan immigrant and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, ran a campaign promising massive amounts of “free” government services funded by crushing tax increases on businesses and wealthy residents.
His upset victory sent shockwaves through both parties, with many predicting his radical agenda would trigger a mass exodus from the Big Apple.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis wasted no time capitalizing on the opportunity, predicting Mamdani’s socialist policies would be a massive windfall for the Sunshine State.
“Just when you thought Palm Beach real estate couldn’t go any higher…” DeSantis posted on X as Mamdani took the lead over Cuomo.
Speaking shortly before the primary election on Tuesday, DeSantis was even more direct about what he expected to happen if the socialist won.
“If this socialist mayor candidate wins in New York City, you’re going to see real estate values skyrocket in Palm Beach because people are going to get out of that city,” DeSantis said.
The Florida Governor wasn’t finished delivering brutal truths about what Mamdani’s victory means for New York City.
“As bad as De Blasio was, this guy is going to be way, way worse,” DeSantis explained.
DeSantis exposes the dangers of Mamdani’s radical anti-police agenda
Governor DeSantis zeroed in on one of the most concerning aspects of Mamdani’s platform – his hostility toward law enforcement.
“He doesn’t think that we should have law enforcement in dangerous parts of the city, that you should send in social workers. See how that works out for you, it ain’t going to work out well,” DeSantis said.
DeSantis noted that Florida has already benefited tremendously from New York’s bad decisions under previous left-wing mayors.
“So, they’ve made a lot of dumb decisions, and we’ve benefited from it,” he said.
But DeSantis predicted the flood of refugees from Mamdani’s New York would be unlike anything Florida has seen before.
“If this guy gets in, we may need to up our police recruitment bonuses because you’re going to see a flood of people,” DeSantis told Florida’s Voice.
The Governor warned that having “a candidate who wants to abolish the NYPD” simply “ain’t going to end well.”
Mamdani’s socialist agenda would devastate New York City
A look at Mamdani’s campaign platform reveals just how radical his agenda really is.
Mamdani has promised to immediately freeze rent for more than 2 million New Yorkers, implement free public transit, and create a network of city-owned grocery stores.
He also wants to provide free universal childcare for children from 6 weeks to 5 years old.
The socialist candidate plans to raise the minimum wage in New York City to $30 per hour by 2030.
To pay for this massive expansion of government, Mamdani wants to raise the corporate tax rate to 11.5% and impose a flat 2% tax on anyone earning more than $1 million annually.
He claims these tax hikes will generate an extra $9 billion in additional revenue – $5 billion from corporate taxes and $4 billion from the millionaire tax.
Mamdani also wants to create a New York City Department of Community Safety that would deploy outreach workers to 100 subway stations and increase funding to “hate violence prevention programs” by 800%.
Trump warns Mamdani represents dangerous new extreme for Democrats
President Donald Trump also weighed in on Mamdani’s shocking primary victory, calling it “a big moment in the History of our Country” where “the Democrats have crossed the line.”
“Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Trump noted that while “we’ve had Radical Lefties before, this is getting a little ridiculous.”
The President didn’t hold back in his assessment of the socialist candidate.
“He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him,” Trump wrote.
Mamdani’s campaign has received endorsements from Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, highlighting just how far left the Democrat Party has moved.
Republicans and even some Democrats are expressing alarm about what a Mamdani administration would mean for New York City’s future.
DeSantis may be making light of the situation with his real estate jokes, but the reality is that Mamdani’s socialist policies would be devastating for New York City while providing a massive boost to Florida’s economy as businesses and families flee the chaos.
