A Lakeland woman turned a simple disturbance call into an all-out crime spree.
What started as a routine assault complaint quickly spiraled into something much worse.
And this Florida woman’s wild crime spree left deputies shaking their heads in disbelief.
Samantha Coulter’s night of chaos begins with bizarre assault
Samantha Coulter, 37, of Lakeland, Florida, decided to make Tuesday evening one that Polk County deputies won’t soon forget.
It all started around 7:37 p.m. when deputies responded to a disturbance call on Fletcher Avenue in Lakeland.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office investigation, Coulter arrived at the victim’s property and climbed over a chain-link fence.
She then attacked the victim and tried to bite him during the assault before running away.
The victim was someone known to Coulter, though investigators have not released details about their relationship.
After her failed attempt at turning into a human piranha, Coulter fled the scene.
The victim probably thought his ordeal was over.
He was wrong.
Coulter returns with her grandmother’s Cadillac as a weapon
The victim left his property to get food, thinking his ordeal was over.
That’s when he got a phone call that would ruin the rest of his evening.
Someone informed him that Coulter had returned to his property.
This time, she wasn’t just climbing fences.
Coulter used her white 2017 Cadillac to ram through the fence before fleeing again.
The vehicle was later identified as belonging to Coulter’s grandmother.
Deputies quickly located Coulter’s damaged Cadillac and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Fletcher Avenue.
But Coulter wasn’t planning to go quietly.
“Why? This is fun!” – Coulter’s response shocks everyone
Here’s where Coulter’s night went from bad to absolutely insane.
A relative of Coulter’s had arrived at the scene and was desperately trying to get her to cooperate with law enforcement.
The relative yelled for Coulter to get out of the car and end this madness.
Coulter’s response left everyone speechless: “Why? This is fun!”
That’s right – a 37-year-old woman was treating her crime spree like some kind of twisted amusement park ride.
Coulter then attempted to drive through a ditch to evade the deputies, which was about as successful as you’d expect.
When that failed, she deliberately rammed her car into a deputy’s patrol vehicle, causing damage, and sped away.
Deputies finally end Coulter’s joyride at Caribbean restaurant
Law enforcement officers weren’t about to let Coulter turn Lakeland into her personal demolition derby.
Deputies managed to block Coulter’s vehicle again, this time at the West Caribbean Restaurant.
Coulter refused to exit the vehicle.
Deputies assisted her out of the car and into a patrol vehicle.
She then slipped out of her handcuffs while in the back of the patrol car.
Deputies removed her from the patrol car, re-handcuffed her, and placed her back inside.
The damage and consequences of Coulter’s “fun” night
Thankfully, no deputies were injured during Coulter’s rampage through Lakeland.
However, one patrol vehicle sustained damage when Coulter deliberately backed into it.
The grandmother’s 2017 Cadillac was also damaged during the incident.
One can only imagine the conversation Coulter will have to have with her grandmother about borrowing the car.
Samantha Coulter was transported to the Polk County Sheriff’s Processing Center and booked on an impressive array of charges.
Coulter faces mountain of serious felony charges
The charges against Coulter read like a criminal justice textbook.
She’s facing Burglary with Assault/Battery for her fence-climbing attack on the victim.
Criminal Mischief over $1,000 covers the property damage she caused during her spree.
Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer stems from her decision to use her grandmother’s Cadillac as a weapon against the deputy’s patrol car.
Aggravated Fleeing to Elude with Property Damage and Fleeing to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer cover her multiple attempts to evade arrest.
Attempted Escape from Custody addresses her Houdini act with the handcuffs.
She also faces Resisting an Officer with Violence, Resisting an Officer Without Violence, and Disorderly Conduct.
Multiple traffic citations were also issued for her creative driving techniques throughout the evening.
What this says about crime in Florida
Coulter’s case highlights the unpredictable nature of law enforcement work in Florida.
What starts as a simple disturbance call can quickly escalate into a multi-hour chase involving property damage, vehicle ramming, and escape attempts.
Deputies never know when they’re going to encounter someone who treats serious criminal charges like an evening of entertainment.
The fact that Coulter described her crime spree as “fun” shows a disturbing disconnect from reality and the consequences of her actions.
Her behavior endangered multiple people, including law enforcement officers who were just trying to do their jobs.
Florida’s criminal justice system will now have to deal with someone who clearly has no respect for the law or other people’s property and safety.
At least the deputies can take comfort in knowing they prevented Coulter from causing even more damage during her twisted idea of a good time.
