A 34-year-old Arkansas man has been charged with murdering his mother, stepfather, and sister in a shocking triple homicide that unfolded during the early morning hours of June 22.
Jarrod Mitchell now faces three counts of first-degree murder. Police have not released the names of the victims, citing privacy concerns.
Authorities say the gruesome discovery was made by the sister’s husband, who returned home from work Sunday morning to find the bodies. According to the Bryant Police Department, all three victims died from gunshot wounds. Remarkably, three children were also inside the home at the time but were not harmed.
Officers arrived at the scene around 7:30 a.m. and quickly launched their investigation. There were no signs of forced entry, and police emphasized that nothing indicated a home invasion.
Eight hours later, Mitchell was arrested and booked into the Saline County Detention Center. He remains behind bars with no bail as he awaits his first court appearance.
This isn’t Mitchell’s first run-in with authorities. Court records show a troubled past, including multiple convictions for non-violent drug offenses. But it’s his history of disturbing behavior that’s drawing new scrutiny.
Back in 2017, Mitchell’s grandparents filed a petition to have him committed involuntarily, citing his escalating substance abuse and violent threats toward family members. One chilling detail from that filing notes that Mitchell allegedly threatened his mother, her husband, and his sister—nearly eight years before their deaths. The petition described knives laid out on a bed and alleged that Mitchell was carrying one on his person. He also reportedly punched holes in the walls and was eventually taken into custody for terroristic threatening.
A judge later ordered him to a detox facility, citing clear evidence that he was either homicidal, suicidal, or gravely disabled.
That petition was filed on June 18, 2017. Nearly eight years to the day later, Mitchell allegedly carried out the crime his family once feared.
The Bryant Police Department says the investigation is still ongoing.
A GoFundMe has since been launched to assist the victims’ loved ones with funeral expenses.
