The $2 billion gas tax/road tax transportation package bill, HB 2025, was passed out of committee to the House floor and then sent back to committee earlier today. The very transportation committee was re-organized at the last minute.
The Capitol projections forecast that the gas tax bill will likely (1) roll back gas tax hike to 15-cents instead of current 20-cents (2) eliminate the permanent indexing of the gas tax (3) remove the very big tax on new and used vehicles.
To make up for missing money they crave, the transit payroll (wage) tax might be boosted.
The Legislature is expected to end on Wednesday June 25th based on the calendar of bills.
This scale-back is still a massive billion dollar tax hike.
