Ed Martin’s nomination as U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C. was looking shakier all the time. As such, in a spate of a few hours, his nomination was yanked and Jeanine Pirro was nominated in his stead.
President Trump announced Thursday that Fox News host Jeanine Pirro will serve as the top prosecutor in Washington, D.C., for the time being.
Pirro replaces interim U.S. attorney Ed Martin, whose nomination was pulled earlier Thursday by Mr. Trump after losing support in the Senate.
“I am pleased to announce that Judge Jeanine Pirro will be appointed interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia,” Trump wrote. “Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York. She is in a class by herself.”
Why was Ed Martin’s nomination tanked? Quite honestly, if you read the news reports, there was just enough there to cause concern as to the efficacy of his nomination.
President Donald Trump’s doomed pick for top federal prosecutor in D.C., Ed Martin, has a history of picking fights in public life, attacking political enemies and allies he disagreed with, judges he secretly opposed and subordinates he wrongly fired, a Washington Post examination of his record over two decades shows.

A Republican lawyer, activist and candidate for multiple offices since 2005, Martin rose to high-level posts at the St. Louis election board, Missouri governor’s office and the nonprofit group founded by anti-feminist icon Phyllis Schlafly. He also racked up $2 million in legal fees and settlement payments at taxpayers’ expense in a scandal that exposed his efforts to push the Missouri Supreme Court to the right.
Furthermore, it seems that privately not everyone was on board with this, and there were certainly those who were public about their concerns. Chiefly Thom Tillis of North Carolina.
I’ll admit, I don’t know enough about Ed Martin other than the fact that he has had no actual experience as a prosecutor. However, I do have to say, coming into office swinging a sledgehammer, even as an interim prosecutor, before getting the lay of the land can be cause for concern.
Martin began by carrying out Trump’s campaign promise to seek retribution against those connected to special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation of Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. Martin also went after Jan. 6 prosecutors, whom he called “despicable people who decided to do something wrong.” In addition to purging top prosecutors and Jan. 6 prosecutors still on probationary terms, Martin dismissed the remaining cases of about 1,600 Capitol riot defendants pardoned by Trump, including three he still represented as a defense lawyer. And he announced investigations into the handling of riot prosecutions and of subordinates who disclosed his actions to the public.
Democratic critics accused Martin of going further, violating the law and legal ethics by attempting to freeze the bank accounts of a $20 billion Biden climate grant program without adequate evidence of a crime over the objections of career prosecutors and a federal judge, and improperly “weaponizing ” his public office to intimidate or chill perceived political opponents.
Given it’s the Washington Post reporting all of this, I’m going to take this with a large grain of salt. However, it’s also evident that there was seemingly a toxic environment surrounding Ed Martin. Thus leading to Jeanine Pirro’s nomination. A nomination that has Thom Tillis’s full support.
Jeanine Pirro has had a long and storied career as a prosecutor and she is a great choice by @POTUS to serve as U.S. Attorney for DC!

GREAT! Except I think even those who are mad at Tillis are forgetting something. They are forgetting about SOMEONE.
Judge James Boasberg. We already know him well given his rulings on Trump’s deportation efforts. But here’s the other and VERY BIG reason why we need someone in the U.S. Attorney’s office in Washington D.C.
Boasberg is a judge on the Federal District Court. He is one of the judges who would be involved in naming someone to that role of U.S. Attorney IF A: the interim role isn’t fulfilled after 120 days, or B. A successor to that role isn’t named…guess what? Boasberg gets to have a VERY LARGE SAY in who is nominated.
This is a crucial position in ANY Administration. But right now, it’s even more crucial given Boasberg’s lawfare against the Trump Administration.
Is Jeanine Pirro a better pick than Ed Martin at this juncture? There are a great number of people who think so. There are others who don’t, and still others who are in the skeptical camp.
However, I think I can safely say that she’d be a strong advocate for the victims and their families rather than coddle criminals like the progressive left has been doing for years now.
Besides being an illegal gotaway, Abrego Garcia is a batterer, a coward who beats women, an MS-13 gang banger, a probable smuggler and human trafficker, a liar and a dirtbag. Yes, that’s exactly what he is. I prosecuted enough batterers to know that if you beat a woman repeatedly…

And there’s this.
I as a parent, should have the right to say I do not want my child exposed to any kind of ideology… pic.twitter.com/DDcLVJv3pd

I will say this. She’s been consistent in speaking on behalf of and for victims and their families. She’s also willing to call out policies that are wrong and harmful to the public at large.
Is she a better choice than Ed Martin? It all depends upon the Democrat reaction, and possibly Whoopi’s. However, we need to remember that getting a qualified person into that position is HUGELY important given the fact that Judge James Boasberg is lurking in the background.
