CV NEWS FEED // Three Republican senators introduced the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed (MOMS) Act this week, which would provide resources for mothers throughout the pregnancy and postpartum stages of motherhood.
Senator Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., and Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., introduced the legislation on May 6, according to Cramer’s website.
The MOMS Act includes Cramer’s Unborn Child Support Act, which gives pregnant mothers the option to request child support from the father before the child is born.
The MOMS Act also includes the establishment of a federal website with resources for pregnant women. As CatholicVote previously reported, the Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) recently called for such a measure.
The new legislation establishes two grant programs: one to support women through the pregnancy and newborn stages, and another to increase access to pre- and post-natal telehealth appointments in medically underserved areas.
“The Republican Party is the party of life, the party of parents, and the party of families,” Britt said. “At the heart of the MOMS Act is building a comprehensive culture of life to give moms, children, and families the support system they need to thrive and live their American Dream.”
Schmitt added, “Being pro-life and pro-family means valuing not only the life of the child but doing everything we can to support moms throughout pregnancy and beyond. I’m glad to introduce this bill to help ensure moms have the resources they need and help set families on the path to achieving the American dream.”
