The Left Turns on Democrat Senator John Fetterman

Last year, Pennsylvania’s Democrat Senator John Fetterman angered his fellow liberals by telling CNN that he believes in securing America’s southern border against unchecked illegal immigration. In a story published in January 2024, Newsweek wrote that Fetterman has shed the progressive label he once proudly espoused. Democrats didn’t like Fetterman’s little act of rebellion against the party but showed patience. Not anymore! They now want Fetterman out of the Senate and likely replaced by a more committed leftist.

On Friday (May 2), the New York Magazine did a hit piece on Senator Fetterman that seriously questioned his mental health and wellbeing. Among the several alarms the story rang about Fettrean’s wellness are things like arguing with his wife over the Israeli military actions in Gaza, his failure to fasten his seatbelt properly on a flight, and uneasy interactions with his staffers or those around him.

While the Democrats have previously ignored Fetterman’s hospitalization for depression in 2023 and his suffering a stroke in 2022, this time they seem unwilling to come to his defense; on the contrary, leftist media voices are calling for Fetterman to step down. On Monday (May 5), leftist daily The Independent wrote “Democrats react with quiet shock to damning John Fetterman profile.” Through the mouths of a couple Democrats cited as sources, the story repeated the line “he needs to resign” to convey the point that Democrats want Fetterman out even though they aren’t saying it out loud.

Other leftist political publications like The New Republic have started kicking the ball tossed by the New York Magazine, reintroducing Fetterman as a man mentally unwell and thus unfit to serve by implication. So what’s behind this seemingly coordinated political attack by the left on Fettreman? 

In his commentary on the Fetterman news, Tarl Warwick called Fetterman a more “rational leftoid” who fell out of favor with the legacy media that mainly supports the Palestinian side while Fetterman has lately voiced his support for Israel but also because Fettreman has deviated from the “uniparty line” in a number of other ways.

MAGA Mike, a conservative commentator on YouTube, made Fetterman’s situation the topic of his latest video. Mike commented that Democrats operate by the socialist-communist tactics of ejecting those members of their party who disagree on any issue and thus fall out of line. The Democrats end the careers of such members by making them the target of their propaganda machinery. Mike said that the Democrats have turned on Fetterman because he showed a little bit of common sense on some issues.

However, Democrats go beyond propaganda to end the political career of those party members who dare sing a different tune than the dominating narrative of the party. In 2024, the Democrat mayor of New York City Eric Adams was charged with bribery and fraud by federal prosecutors under Biden. It came after Adams went vocal against the damage done by the illegal immigrants to New York City. Adams has since fought the pressure by the Democrats to resign. The Trump administration recently dropped the federal charges against Adams. Now Adams is set for running for the mayor’s office again but as an independent candidate. At the time of this writing, Adams remains a Democrat.
