Donald Trump has always portrayed himself as a “law and order president,” but he has taken some lumps on that front as of late.
Trump is signing an executive order to empower local police, which will, hopefully, flip the negative narrative Trump is facing right now on the law and order front.
The Pardons
One reason Trump has taken it on the chin lately is some of the pardons he has issued.
Trump pardoned former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was a contestant on “The Apprentice.” He also happened to be convicted on numerous corruption-related charges.
More recently, Trump pardoned Nevada’s Michele Fiore, which is particularly damaging for Trump, as she was convicted in a fraud case, having stolen money that was raised for a memorial for two fallen police officers in Nevada.
Last but not least, Trump also had the DOJ drop the charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who had been indicted on corruption charges related to alleged bribes he took.
January 6 Pardons
I have been very outspoken regarding Donald Trump’s January 6 pardons.
I had zero problem with the majority of the pardons, as I felt many of those individuals had been overcharged.
My big concern, however, was with the people charged with sedition and those who brutally beat police officers that day. The sedition defendants are going to be a problem for Trump is Dems take back the House, as they will likely try to use those pardons to impeach Trump.
How can you possibly be for law and order when you allow people out of jail who beat police officers at a rally? That is something that I will never forgive him for.
The Order
Now Trump is flipping the news cycle with a new executive order that will help support local police officers and push back on the “soft-on-crime policies” that “have fueled chaos.”
The new order will help local police boost their recruitment as well as providing law enforcement with “surplus military assets for local law enforcement and evaluate their use in crime prevention.”
The order would also increase pay for officers, offer better training, and view federal consent decrees.
In my eyes, Trump has a lot to make up for with the men and women in blue, and I realize I may be in the minority as far as that is concerned. But the pardon of Fiore and the handful of J6ers who beat on cops really upset me, and I would just love to hear from Trump how he can possibly justify those moves with his pro-police stance.
