A woman’s solo getaway to Tokyo turned into a real-life horror story after she discovered a man hiding beneath her hotel bed—only after detecting a strange odor in the room.
Natalisi Taksisi, a traveler from Thailand, recounted the terrifying ordeal in a TikTok video that’s now gone viral. What started as a quiet solo trip to Japan quickly spiraled into a nightmare she says she’ll never forget.
“It was my first night alone in Tokyo. The hotel looked professional—key card access, private floors, everything seemed secure,” Taksisi explained. “I went sightseeing all day, came back around 7:30 p.m., got undressed, laid on the bed… and then I smelled something.”
At first, she assumed it was something benign—maybe her hair, or the bedding. But the odor persisted. Then came the chilling realization: the smell was coming from beneath the bed.
When she crouched down to investigate, she saw a pair of eyes staring back at her.
“I froze,” she said. “Then I screamed and jumped up. The man crawled out and just stared at me for a few seconds. I swear it felt like time stopped. I thought I was going to die.”
According to Taksisi, the intruder didn’t say a word—he simply screamed too, then bolted out of the room.
Panicked, she called for help, and hotel staff summoned the police. Officers found a power bank and a USB cable left behind under the bed, but no sign of how the man got in.
“I kept asking the hotel, ‘How is this possible?’” she said. “They had no answers. They told me there were no security cameras in the hallways. No way to trace him.”
Taksisi said the hotel refunded her stay but denied her request for further compensation—$1600 for emotional trauma—stating it wasn’t part of their policy. She shared screenshots of the hotel’s emails in her video.
“After that, I barely slept,” she added. “I kept checking closets, the bathroom, under the bed—every corner of every room I stayed in.”
The unsettling story has sparked outrage online, with viewers demanding accountability from the hotel and better safety measures for solo travelers.
“How did someone know I was alone? How did they get in?” she asked. “And how is it that no one—not even the hotel—seems to care about answers?”
The Japan International Police Association has not commented on the incident.
