Walmart goes America First with a new initiative supporting Donald Trump’s agenda

It’s probably safe to assume that nearly 80 percent of products at Walmart are imported from China. This is why it’s surprising that the company has launched a new program aimed at helping American “small businesses go big.”

A statement released by Walmart on the program said that it is aiming to “help small businesses go big” with American-made products. The retail giant, which has been growing its ecommerce platform as a of late, said that the move is “building on the legacy Sam Walton established over 40 years ago” and looking to expand “support for American-made products through new programs like Grow with US — providing small businesses with new tools and paths for success.”

It’s great that the company is finally trying to make American products great and affordable again, but it’s a bit comical considering Sam Walton likely did not see his company going in the direction it did.

In other words, it’s doubtful Walton intended for his company to turn into a de facto Temu factory, but that is neither here nor there.

Walmart said that the program will be “making it easier for US-based entrepreneurs to navigate the complexities of retail and bring their products to a national stage.”

What is also ironic is that the company was technically what started the downfall of mom-and-pop shops. It’s not breaking news that small businesses can’t really compete with the buying power of Walmart, and for every new store that opened, it was not bizarre to see family-owned businesses shut down.

There is a reason you never see a Walmart next to a small toy shop or hardware store, and while the company intended to help average Americans, it sometimes ended up doing the opposite. Nonetheless, time will only tell where this initiative will go, and it appears not to be China.
