People often argue about whether it’s okay to fully recline your airplane seat, should your comfort make someone else uncomfortable? Jake faced this dilemma when his choice to recline upset the pregnant woman sitting behind him. Here’s what happened.
On a nine-hour flight, Jake leaned his seat all the way back. Soon after, the pregnant woman behind him started pushing his seat and complaining that she didn’t have enough space. Frustrated, he told her, “If you want more comfort, pay for business class!” She didn’t respond, and later, he noticed she was no longer in her seat.
I was curious, so I asked a flight attendant where she went. The stewardess told me they moved her to an empty seat in business class to prevent any more issues.
As the flight was ending, a flight attendant came up to me with a surprising message: “Sir, you might want to check your bag.” Confused, I opened it and found a business class amenity kit inside. It had earplugs, an eye mask, toiletries, and a note.
The note said:
“Kindness is free and makes the journey better for everyone. Thank you for inspiring the generosity of strangers, which made my flight much more comfortable. Safe travels.”
Even after this unexpected twist, I don’t regret what I did. I paid for my seat, and if reclining wasn’t allowed, the seats wouldn’t be made that way.
What do you think, was I wrong?
