A 33-year-old woman in Florida is accused of seriously injuring a 9-year-old boy this week, allegedly beating him over the head with a kitchen pot because she was angry over how he had done the dishes.
Daniela Raymond was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with one count of felony aggravated child abuse resulting in great bodily harm, records reviewed by Law&Crime show.
Officers with the Miami-Dade Police Department at about 6 p.m. on Sunday responded to a home in the 1300 block of NW 111st Street in regard to a report about possible child abuse, Miami Fox affiliate WSVN reported.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders said they made contact with the child, who recounted what allegedly took place inside the residence.
According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Miami CBS affiliate WFOR, the victim told police that Raymond had become angry after the child had washed the dishes because she did not approve of the way he had completed the task.
Raymond allegedly reacted by grabbing a kitchen pot and striking him on the head with it, causing a “large laceration to his scalp,” WFOR reported.
Allegedly unsatisfied with the extent of the punishment, Raymond allegedly “ordered” the child to place his hand on the kitchen table, per Miami ABC affiliate WPLG. Raymond then allegedly used the pot to strike the child’s left hand with the kitchen pot, breaking his middle finger.
After striking the child in the head and the hand with the pot, Raymond allegedly used the kitchen utensil to beat him on his arms and back before kicking him in the stomach. Authorities reportedly noted in the affidavit that the victim had visible bruising on his arms, back, and stomach.
Raymond sat for an interview with detectives, but her statement was reportedly redacted from the affidavit.
The relationship between Raymond and the child was not revealed by authorities.
Raymond was detained, transported, and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. She is currently being held without bond, records show. She appeared in court on Wednesday where she formally pleaded not guilty to the child abuse charge. She is currently scheduled to appear in court again on Thursday morning.
