White House: Trump’s “patience is running very thin” with Ukraine’s president

The Trump administration has put forward a proposed peace agreement aimed at ending the deadly war between Russia and Ukraine.

However, this week saw President Donald Trump charge Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with standing in the way of a solution to the crisis. 

Trump accuses Zelensky of making “very harmful” remarks about Crimea

According to the New York Post, Trump lashed out at Zelensky in a Truth Social post on Wednesday in which he warned that his counterpart faces a “dire” situation.

He went on to assert that Ukraine’s leader can either “have Peace or, he can fight for another three years before losing the whole Country.”

Trump’s comments came not long after Zelensky told reporters that “Ukraine will not legally recognize the [Russian] occupation of Crimea.”

“This statement is very harmful to the Peace Negotiations with Russia in that Crimea was lost years ago under the auspices of President Barack Hussein Obama, and is not even a point of discussion,” Trump complained.

One of the key provisions of Trump’s peace plan is allowing Russia to retain control of the Crimean Peninsula which it annexed in 2014 despite global protests.

Other elements include de facto acceptance of Russia’s occupation of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia despite formally considering the areas to be Ukrainian territory.

The Post noted that White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt reiterated Trump’s concerns on Wednesday, telling journalists that “his patience is running very thin.”

“He wants to see peace. He wants to see the killing stop but you need both sides of the war willing to do that, and unfortunately President Zelensky seems to be moving in the wrong direction,” she asserted.

“President Zelensky has been trying to litigate this peace negotiation in the press, and that’s unacceptable to the president,” Leavitt added.

Meanwhile, Fox News reported on Wednesday that the Russian military launched an overnight attack on Ukraine’s capital city of Kyiv.

The Kyiv City Military Administration claimed that the strike, which involved drones and missiles, claimed nine lives and left another 70 people injured.

Five neighborhoods are said to have been affected, including the Sviatoshynskyi district, where a fire broke out in a residential building.
