The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) says it has discovered and canceled an “unreasonably priced” Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) contract.
In a post on X, the DOGE account credited the VA with saving millions over the course of the contract’s life by eliminating the existing agreement and replacing it with one that costs around $5,000 per year.
Look:
Great work by the @DeptVetAffairs cancelling an unreasonably priced multi-year $15.3M services contract for “salary survey data and analysis.”

In early April, DOGE also noted that the VA was paying a whopping $380,000 per month for “minor website modifications.” This contract was also canceled, and one “internal VA software engineer” spends around ten hours a week doing the same work.
Good work by @DeptVetAffairs
VA was previously paying ~$380,000/month for minor website modifications. That contract has not been renewed and the same work is now being executed by 1 internal VA software engineer spending ~10 hours/week.

X users were astounded at the sheer amount of taxpayer dollars that have been wasted by the federal government:
I honestly don’t understand how you can pay a contractor $4M/year for $5K with of work.
This isn’t just waste, it’s money laundering.
These contractors need to be investigated ASAP.

Absolutely. Keep hunting. Find all the $$$ & gifts. Reverse it all. Go get them & return our money.

How does something like this even happen? 5k vs 4M is insane. Almost 1000x more expensive than it was supposed to be

I’m an operations research analyst, and a civilian… and there are entire ORSA agencies…why are we contracting this out at all? Should be done in house
