Since assuming office in January, President Donald Trump has taken steps to reverse a host of Biden-era rules and regulations, and he shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.
As the Associated Press reports, on Wednesday, Trump signed an executive order ordering the end of water conservation standards designed to restrict the flow through showerheads, dishwashers, clothes washers, toilets, and the like, undoing restrictions supported by Democrats.
Trump holds forth in Oval Office
Sitting in the Oval Office for one of his frequent executive order signing sessions, Trump humorously lamented the personal toll the Biden-backed regulations have had on his hygiene habits.
“I like to take a nice shower, take care of my beautiful hair,” Trump began. “I have to stand in the shower for 15 minutes until it gets wet. Comes out drip, drip, drip. It’s ridiculous.”
The president continued his critique of water flow regulations more broadly, saying, “What you do is you end up washing your hands five times longer, so it’s the same water.”
Heralding the loosening of the aforementioned rules, Trump added, “And we’re going to open it up so that people can live.”
To that end, as the New York Post explains, the executive order will return water flow standards for showerheads to the old 2.5-gallons-per-minute rule, a change Trump clearly believes the nation will welcome.
Executive order outlines changes
The aforementioned executive order, which the administration says “Makes America’s Showers Great Again,” orders the Energy Secretary to “immediately rescind the overly complicated federal rule that redefined ‘showerhead’ under [Barack] Obama and Biden,” as a White House fact sheet noted.
According to the administration this move “frees Americans from excessive regulations that turned a basic household item into a bureaucratic nightmare.”
“No longer will showerheads be weak and worthless,” the administration vowed.
The fact sheet continued, “The government should not waste taxpayer time and money writing another elaborate definition for a term that has a simple definition,” adding, “No market failure justifies this intrusion: Americans pay for their own water and should be free to choose their showerheads without federal meddling.”
Beyond showers
As the administration fact sheet also explained, “It’s not just showers — the Biden Administration aggressively targeted everyday appliances like gas stoves, water heaters, washing machines, furnaces, dishwashers, and more, waging war on the reliable tools Americans depend on daily.”
“President Trump is slashing red tape and ending Biden’s dumb war on things that work,” the White House asserted, giving voice to a proposition with which millions of Americans will surely agree.
