Under President Donald Trump’s administration, the efforts to address illegal immigration and the associated crimes continue to gain momentum, and the latest actions show how serious the problem became under former President Joe Biden.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently charged a number of illegal immigrants with identity theft, highlighting the depth of criminal activity by those unlawfully in the country.
ICE officials revealed that 18 illegal immigrants had been charged in an extensive investigation into immigration-related identity theft.
The agency announced that these individuals, from Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico, face charges ranging from aggravated identity theft to misuse of Social Security numbers and providing false statements to unlawfully obtain employment.
If convicted on all counts, they could face anywhere from 2 to 12 years in federal prison.
The individuals charged include people from Honduras such as Luvin Daniel Hernandez Amador, Elvin Donahel Hernandez Amador, and Junior Eduardo Ferrufino Andino, as well as others from Guatemala and Mexico, per Conservative Brief.
The investigation was a collaborative effort involving ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. Border Patrol, the Social Security Administration, and several state and local law enforcement agencies.
These arrests are part of a broader initiative to address illegal immigration and criminal activity, with ICE targeting those who attempt to exploit the system for unlawful gain.
The effort shows the widespread nature of the problem, especially under the previous administration, which saw increased illegal migration and associated crimes.
Tom Homan, Trump’s former acting ICE director, has been a vocal advocate for tough immigration policies.
In February, Homan issued a warning to criminal aliens, pledging that they would be arrested.
He also emphasized the need for blue cities to stop sheltering illegal immigrants and refusing to cooperate with federal authorities.
Homan made clear that the Trump administration is committed to eradicating criminal migrant groups, which include violent gangs such as Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua and El Salvador’s MS-13.
During a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Homan highlighted the success of the Trump administration’s border policies, noting a sharp decrease in the number of illegal immigrants crossing the southern border.
In February, Homan reported that the number of “gotaways”—illegal immigrants who evade capture—had plummeted by 95%, from around 1,800 per day in 2023 to just 48.
This reduction in illegal immigration is seen as a direct result of the Trump administration’s aggressive enforcement policies, which are being continued under his leadership.
Homan emphasized that the number of illegal immigrants caught attempting to cross the border is still too high, but he remains committed to driving that number to zero.
As Homan stated, the focus remains on removing criminal aliens, including gang members and cartel affiliates.
He reinforced his commitment to eliminating these threats to American communities, highlighting that groups like MS-13 and Tren de Aragua pose a significant danger, responsible for killing more Americans than any terrorist group globally.
The arrests made by ICE and the ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration and crime serve as a reminder that the Trump administration remains determined to put America first and ensure that those unlawfully in the country are held accountable for their actions.
Homan’s message is clear: The fight against illegal immigration and the criminals who exploit it is far from over.
