Pennsylvania man charged with making online threats against Trump, others

Authorities have detained a Butler, Pennsylvania man for allegedly making online threats against public figures, including President Donald Trump and tech magnate Elon Musk.

Shawn Monper, 32, was charged with making violent threats online, including against the president, culminating in his arrest on April 9, as Breitbart reports.

Monper reportedly used an online alias “Mr Satan” to post menacing comments on YouTube. The threatening statements, targeted at Trump, other U.S. officials, and ICE agents, spanned from mid-January to early April this year. On April 8, the FBI’s National Threat Operations Section received an urgent disclosure regarding these threats, prompting an investigation.

Threats span severeal months

The progression of events began shortly after Trump’s presidential inauguration when Monper legally obtained a firearms permit. By February of this year, Monper had escalated his rhetoric, proclaiming in a comment that violence was needed against Trump, Musk, and various agency leaders associated with Trump’s administration. He referred to his actions as the start of “American Revolution 2.0.”

His online activity included claims of firearm purchases and stockpiling ammunition. Monper further declared in March that he intended to perpetrate a mass shooting, maintaining that he had been accruing weapons, body armor, and ammunition since the election.

The aggressive remarks targeted ICE agents, whom Monper labeled as “terrorist people.” He expressed intent to treat armed ICE agents as domestic threats and declared an intention to open fire if encountered.
