HOUSTON, TX – A daring confrontation unfolded at a gas station in the Humble area on Monday afternoon when a woman, known only as Robin, valiantly defended herself against a carjacker. The incident, captured on surveillance video, shows Robin clinging to her SUV as the suspect attempted to drive away.
Robin, who has children and a sick mother depending on her, said she was in fear for her life. She had stopped at the gas station on Kennewick Drive to inflate a tire when she noticed a shadow approaching the driver’s side of her vehicle. As she reached the driver’s seat, a man, later identified by authorities as Shadrach, confronted her.
“He just immediately started punching me,” Robin recounted. “He said he was going to stab me if I didn’t let go.” Despite the threat, Robin held on as the suspect put the SUV in reverse, eventually crashing into a median and a brick sign.
In a quick-thinking maneuver, Robin devised a plan to retrieve her knife from her purse, which was out of reach on the floorboard. She convinced the suspect to hand her the purse by offering him money. Once she had the purse, she swiftly pulled out the knife, causing the would-be carjacker to flee.
“I was prepared to defend myself with the knife because my life was at risk,” she said. The suspect walked away unharmed but not before taunting Robin by blowing her a kiss and grinning.
Determined to see justice served, Robin pursued him in her car, alerting others to call the police. Deputies eventually apprehended the suspect in a nearby neighborhood. He faced charges of robbery causing bodily injury and was already on deferred adjudication for a previous stalking charge.
Despite prosecutors’ request for a $50,000 bond, Magistrate Rene Franklin set the bond at $20,000, which the suspect quickly posted. This decision has left Robin uneasy, knowing the suspect is now out of jail.
As she moves forward, Robin is considering increasing her personal security measures to protect herself and her family. “The plan is to buy more guns,” she remarked, underscoring her resolve to remain vigilant.
