Former Arkansas Gov. and Fox News personality Mike Huckabee was confirmed to be the U.S. ambassador to Israel by a 53-46 vote on Wednesday, with Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) being the only Democrat to vote in support.
Later the same day, President Donald Trump signed Huckabee’s commission for the post and sent a transmittal letter to Israeli President Isaac Herzog, “requesting that he accept” Huckabee’s credentials.

“He’s going to be fantastic,” Trump said. “He’s going to bring home the bacon — even though bacon isn’t too big in Israel. I had to clear that up. Okay, congratulations to Mike Huckabee.”
The controversy
Huckabee was somewhat controversial as a nominee because he has repeatedly advocated for Israel to annex Judea and Samaria to its territory and has opposed a two-state solution.
During his confirmation hearings, Huckabee said he would follow Trump’s policy wishes in regard to Israel, not his own, however.
“If confirmed, it will be my responsibility to carry out the president’s priorities, not mine,” Huckabee said.
He is the first evangelical Christian to serve as ambassador to Israel, and he strongly supports its rights and actions.
“Great day”
The Office of Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Huckabee on his confirmation to the post on X, stating that it was “a great day for the Israeli-American alliance.”
Democrats, of course, disagreed.
“Huckabee’s positions are not the words of a thoughtful diplomat — they are the words of a provocateur whose views are far outside international consensus and contrary to the core bipartisan principles of American diplomacy,” New York Rep. Jerry Nadler, a senior Jewish Democrat, said in a statement last month.
“In one of the most volatile and violent areas in the world today, there is no need for more extremism, and certainly not from the historic ambassador’s post and behind the powerful seal of the United States,” he added.
Huckabee was briefly a rival candidate to Trump in 2016, but he did not get the traction he needed and dropped out of the race early.
He then became a successful Fox News host and radio host.
