Russell Brand said Friday that he will not only return to the UK to fight decades-old rape allegations but that he is “incredibly grateful” for the opportunity.
Brand denied all charges on social media on Friday, saying the law was being used as a “weapon” against him.
There are various charges against Brand from four different women spanning from 1999 to 2005. He is charged with rape, indecent assault, sexual assault, and oral rape.
The alleged assaults have been under investigation since September 2023, when women first began to report them.
Many changes
Brand is British, but moved with his wife and three children to Florida in February.
Brand converted to Christianity after the allegations went public, and he has been palling around with President Donald Trump and his friends in recent months.
He attended Trump’s inauguration and was given a “Defender of Freedom” award in February at Mar-A-Lago.
He will have to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 2.
“I was a fool”
In a video on X Friday, Brand said, “I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord. I was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile.”

“But what I never was, was a rapist,” he insisted. “I have never engaged in non-consensual activity – I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes.”
He continued: “I’m now going to have the opportunity to defend these charges in court and I’m incredibly grateful for that.”
More lawfare
No doubt, Brand is being targeted for switching sides politically, as so many others have been before him.
Even worse, he could be facing persecution for his conversion, which happens even in a free society like the U.S. when the justice system is being weaponized.
An advantage for Brand is that 20-some year old rape allegations are difficult to prove. They can drag him through the mud, but probably not to jail at this point.
