Monel “Mikano” Felix, leader of the “Wharf Jeremie gang,” ordered the attack on elderly practitioners of Voodoo. He blamed his son’s terminal on witches living in the Port-au-Prince slum of Cité Soleil.
On December 6th and 7th, the Wharf Jeremie gang killed as many as 184 people, mostly with machetes. Most of the victims are women over the age of 60. Some victims were burned in the streets.
