Two men have been arrested in Birmingham, Alabama, in connection with nearly 30% of the state’s homicides during the summer of 2024, raising concerns about the impact of violent crime in the region.
Damien McDaniel, 22, of Bessemer, and Hatarius Woods, 27, of Fairfield, have been arrested in Birmingham, Alabama, for their alleged involvement in the state’s homicides during the summer of 2024.
Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald revealed that the two are connected to a series of violent crimes, including the murder of Charlie Moore, 61, who was shot on August 13.
According to the police, McDaniel and Woods are also suspected of participating in a nightclub mass shooting on July 13 that resulted in four fatalities and injuries to ten others.
McDaniel was previously arrested in October in connection with another mass shooting that occurred on September 21, which left four dead and around 17 injured.
Officer Fitzgerald emphasized the significance of the arrests, noting that a few individuals contribute to a disproportionate amount of violent crime in Birmingham.
Police said McDaniel may be linked to as many as 11 murders, with additional unsolved cases potentially involving both men.
Currently, both men being held without bond.
