President-elect Donald Trump has made serious waves threatening to impose tariffs on various nations and those countries are taking him very seriously.
On Friday Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau went to meet with the president-elect in Florida at his Mar-a-Lago home to discuss relations between the two neighboring nations, The New York Post reported.
“As everyone is aware, thousands of people are pouring through Mexico and Canada, bringing Crime and Drugs at levels never seen before. Right now a Caravan coming from Mexico, composed of thousands of people, seems to be unstoppable in its quest to come through our currently Open Border,” the president-elect said on his Truth Social account.
“On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on ALL products coming into the United States, and its ridiculous Open Borders. This Tariff will remain in effect until such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country! Both Mexico and Canada have the absolute right and power to easily solve this long simmering problem. We hereby demand that they use this power, and until such time that they do, it is time for them to pay a very big price!” he said.
One year ago, President Trump was facing 900 years in prison.

After the tariff threat, the Canadian prime minister phoned the president-elect and said it was a “good call.”
“We obviously talked about … how the intense and effective connections between our two countries flow back and forth. We talked about some of the challenges we can work on together,” he said to reporters after the call.
Trudeau also held a call with other Canadian officials to speak about the tariff threat.
“Donald Trump, when he makes statements like that, he plans on carrying them out. There’s no question about that,” the prime minister said.
“Our responsibility is to point out that in this way he would be actually not just harming Canadians who work so well with the United States,” he added. “He’d actually be raising prices for American citizens as well, and hurting American industry and businesses.”
Trump, meanwhile, expressed his disappointment in the Chinese government for not solving the fentanyl issue.
“I have had many talks with China about the massive amounts of drugs, in particular, Fentanyl, being sent into the United States – But to no avail,” he said on Truth Social. “Representatives of China told me that they would institute their maximum penalty, that of death, for any drug dealers caught doing this but, unfortunately, they never followed through.”
Before the election he told a captive audience during a speech in Detroit that in order to protect the American automobile industry, which has its roots in the Motor City, that he would tax Chinese car imports by as much as “a thousand percent.”
“We will implement further protections for critical industries that are fundamental to our national interests And those include, above all, steel and the car industry. The car industry is critical to us,” the former president said during his speech at the Detroit Economic Club.
“We can’t fight a war if we can’t make cars and trucks and engines and transmissions and drive trains. Surrendering our car industry is not an option. We have to make our car industry brilliant again. We have to make it bigger, I’m going to make it bigger than it was ever before,” he said.
“We’re going to make this country so strong. And it’s going to be so much easier to run. And I think we’re going to end up actually having a lot of support from the other party, I really believe that,” the former president said before going back to his promise to impose massive tariffs.
